Inclusivity means making everyone feel seen, valued, and able to participate fully. One staff member at a restaurant proved just how powerful that can be. When TikTok user Paul (@paul_aramouni_signs) went to place an order at a restaurant, the staff had no idea he was hearing-impaired until he used sign language. However, one female staffer's response left him speechless. Sharing the video with his TikTok followers on February 14, 2026, Paul revealed his surprise over her quick response.

TikTok user Paul visited a burger joint to place an order, but the staff had no idea he was deaf. When he approached, a female staffer greeted him, but soon realized that he was hearing-impaired. However, what she did next took him by surprise. She soon greeted him in American Sign Language and asked what he would like to have. She treated him like any other customer, making him feel safe and accepted. After placing the order, she signed that he'd have to wait about 10 minutes, and he thanked her. The man urged in the overlay text of the video that every school must incorporate ASL into their curriculum.

Being seen and accepted for who you are is a privilege not every person with a disability experiences. Often, people do not try to accommodate the needs of differently-abled individuals, making it challenging for them to navigate life. However, the female staffer's gesture to immediately recognize that he needed assistance highlights the importance of learning to accept and include all kinds of people.

Soon after his post gained popularity, many users shared their thoughts on it. @Reese Hoffman mentioned, "I am a waitress and am learning ASL, and I had my first table who was deaf yesterday, and I was so stoked but so nervous. I literally have practiced so much, and it paid off!" @Daniele remarked, "Sign language should be something that is taught in all schools around the world. It’s a way of communicating with other humans, and is equally important as learning your mother tongue in school." @Dory penned, "I will be teaching my future children Spanish and ASL, specifically for this reason."

Paul's video reminds us of Robert and his wife Maggie, who happened to walk into a restaurant without realizing he was in for a surprise. Robert, who is deaf, often relies on his wife to order meals when they go out. However, one waitress's gesture at a restaurant melted him. She immediately recognized his difficulty in ordering and began signing to him in ASL.

Robert had lost his hearing after suffering from meningitis. He explained that when his wife was not around, he depended on lip-reading, gestures, talk-to-text apps, and speech. This was the first time he could communicate and place an order independently, without much hassle. Robert, happy to order on his own, appreciated meeting a staffer who treated him normally and respectfully.
