She found out her boyfriend was cheating on her — so she turned Craigslist into her revenge weapon and drove him insane
Revenge isn’t always loud or dramatic. Sometimes, it’s slow, relentless, and never lets you sleep. That’s exactly how one woman decided to get back at her cheating boyfriend. She turned a simple breakup into a worst nightmare he couldn’t escape. She posted fake “free” listings with his phone number, which led him into nonstop chaos. Sharing the story on Reddit on October 13, 2025, under the username u/WendyRoe, the user explained how Craigslist became an unexpected tool for revenge. “Not me, but I got involved,” they wrote, after responding to an unusual online listing. The story began when they came across an ad on Craigslist offering “45 free layers hens (chickens).”
The ad seemed genuine at first as the birds seemed of “right age and good breed,” claiming that the owner was “moving for work, must get rid of them quickly.” The user became curious and decided to call the listed number, but they faced frustration: “I call. The guy is irate,” they wrote in the post. However, when he calmed down a little, the whole fiasco of the ad came out. According to the man on the phone, his girlfriend went through his phone and found out that he was cheating. To his understanding, the story was over as they brokeup. “But, she started posting free stuff on Craigslist with his phone number,” according to the post. The ad encouraged people to reach out at all hours, mentioning, “Call anytime.” Whenever the man tried to get one post down, another would pop up. The post further explained, “As soon as he gets the post taken down, she posts another with his phone number.”
The listings grew more and more absurd as days passed. “One was a motorcycle he never owned; like he never owned any chickens,” the post read. Another listing claimed that he was giving away “free new fencing he can’t use.” The situation escalated further when the girl posted an ad for a free puppy he supposedly found, and even one offering to “Share half a big house cheap. I'm out of town most of the time for work.” The worst part was that whenever a listing was taken down, it reappeared in a different category. “He can't change his phone number because it is a work phone,” the post read.
The bizarre revenge plot quickly drew attention on Reddit, with many users sharing their reactions. “This was a common prank amongst my friends in high school. Write up an ad for a free lawnmower, convert the text to Spanish, slap your friend's number on there, and enjoy the ride,” mentioned u/Insufflator. u/Dragline96, who did something similar, recounted, “I did that to a guy many years ago, the only difference was that I put in my ad: ‘Shift worker. Call before 6 a.m.'” u/Aggravating-Tale605 remarked, “I love this for him! Karma is hilarious sometimes.”
