She heard a strange click as a man leaned closer under the pretext of asking for an address — what she feared afterward left her sick to her stomach
The uncertainty of not knowing whether something inappropriate happened can be just as unsettling as knowing it did. Instagram user Julie Vivien found herself questioning exactly that after a brief interaction with a stranger outside a friend's apartment complex. In a post shared on Monday, June 29, 2026, under the handle @julievivien.m, she described how a man with glasses approached her asking for directions, leaving her disturbed long after the conversation had ended. What first appeared to be a simple request quickly made her wonder whether something far more inappropriate had happened when she suddenly heard a click.
Vivien explained that she had just stepped outside when a man ran up and asked if she knew the address of a nearby house. Although she initially said she did not know, she decided to help by checking the location on her phone. While she was looking at the screen, she noticed the man wearing what she described as “these thicker glasses” as he moved closer to her. In the middle of the interaction, she suddenly heard a clicking sound before he thanked her, turned around, and hurried away. It was only afterward that she feared the stranger might have secretly taken an inappropriate photo of her using either his glasses or his phone. Reflecting on the moment, she admitted, “That feels so gross,” as she struggled to process what might have happened.
The encounter left Vivien feeling deeply uncomfortable because she could not understand why anyone would behave that way. She also found herself questioning her own clothing and wondering whether the man had attempted to take a picture of her cleavage or anything else from an odd angle. Although the situation did not become physically dangerous, she said it left her feeling shocked and unsure how to react after the stranger quickly disappeared from the area without any further explanation.
In the comments below her video, Vivien later shared that she decided to contact the police because the incident had happened close to a children's daycare. Officers thanked her for reporting the situation and told her they would check whether similar complaints had been made before. She also said they planned to inform the daycare so staff could remain aware of any possible concerns nearby. While Vivien never learned exactly what happened, reporting the encounter gave her some reassurance that the matter would not simply be ignored. Looking back, she said the experience left her feeling “sick to my stomach” because of the uncertainty surrounding those few seconds.
Public spaces are meant to feel safe, but disturbing experiences can leave women questioning their surroundings. In another incident, a woman named Peyton Williams shared how three strangers began questioning her while she waited alone at an airport late at night. One man stood “directly in front” of her, and the group continued asking about her travel plans until she felt unsafe and alerted airport officials. Later, security footage reportedly showed they had been following her from the start. Reflecting on the discovery, she said, “These people were following me basically the second I entered the airport.” She now urges others to “be aware of your surroundings,” especially when traveling alone.
