She was stunned when her date said he’d become a father in the six months since they last met — what he revealed next ruled out a second date

The revelation caught her off guard, but the series of unfortunate events that followed made her eager to leave the date.

Dating someone you already know through mutual friends can feel like a safer bet, especially when you’ve crossed paths before. TikTok creator Brittany, who goes by @brittanyybowen, was contacted via DM by a man she knew through mutual friends, who asked her out. She said yes and ghosted him when things "did not work out." Months later, she agreed when he reached out again and asked her out to lunch. But on their lunch date, the man told her he had become a father since they last saw each other, and the details that followed were even more unexpected, according to her video posted on August 14, 2026.

Brittany explained that she had even seen him six months earlier, when he wasn't a father. During their lunch, Brittany said she didn’t want to date someone with kids. He then revealed he had a son, even though she had seen him just months earlier. When she asked how that was possible, he casually said, “She’s due in two weeks.” The revelation left her stunned, as she thought he had waited until the date to reveal that he had been hiding the fact that he was about to become a father.

Brittany said she didn't want to hear the explanation. He said it was a “one-time thing” and that he and the mother weren’t together. But Brittany didn’t want to deal with a complicated situation, especially with the baby due in two weeks. The date somehow got even more awkward when it was time to pay. He tried to use Apple Pay, only to find that the restaurant didn't accept it. Then he told her that he forgot his wallet. Brittany said she wasn't about to pay for the meal, so the server eventually helped him process the payment through his phone.

He then suggested they do something else before Brittany had to leave. But when they got back to his Tesla, he revealed that the car was out of charge. His solution was to charge it and “Netflix and chill” in the car. Brittany was ready to call it a day. She joked that she deliberately avoids inviting men over. She didn't want to Netflix and chill, only to somehow end up being asked to do so at a charging station because her date hadn't charged his car.

By the end, Brittany said she was ready to go home and joked that the experience was a reminder of why she hadn't been on a date since February. The comments section also had plenty to say about the bizarre date. @jamiebxbm, who said they were a baby mama, wrote, “You’ll never have a peaceful life dating a baby daddy because all they’ll do is lie.” @jadiebugz added, “What was his name? Because I'm due in two weeks and I found him on Tinder.” Meanwhile, @kawsatl joked, “He was interviewing you for the babysitting position.”

Hiding details as significant as having kids can leave no room for further dates or for a relationship to develop. In another similar incident, Amanda Martinez discovered during a date that the man she had matched with on Hinge had a child, despite clearly telling him beforehand that she did not want kids. He admitted he kept it from her because he thought she wouldn’t have agreed to the date. She paid for her meal and left the date.
