Single dad asked stranger for money to buy daughters food — his heartbreaking story proved that 'there are good men in this world'
Every person in a difficult situation might have a story to share. A man, Cody Bret, decided to listen to a single dad's story, who asked him for food for his two daughters. Bret was pulling out of a parking space at a restaurant when the man came up to him and asked him for money to buy food. Bret was a little skeptical at first, so he asked the man to follow him to Walmart and he would pick food for the man there. Bret was surprised to see that the man actually turned up and even more stunned to listen to his story, according to a Facebook post.
"The other evening, while backing out of a parking space at a restaurant, I had a gentleman pull up beside me and told me he needed some money for food for his two daughters, who were seven and fifteen years old," Bret recounted. He was not sure if the man genuinely needed the money for food. "I told him I will head to Walmart and you can pick up a few things for you and your daughters if you would like to meet me there in 20 minutes." Bret was surprised to see the man a couple of minutes after he pulled into the parking lot at Walmart. The dad informed Bret that he was the sixth person he had asked for help that day. Everyone else had shunned him.
At one point, Bret noticed that the man was counting the groceries in the basket and asked him what was up. "He said he wanted to make sure they had enough food to last them throughout the week. I told him, 'Get as much food as you want. I've been there before, so I completely understand.'" The man got really emotional and told Bret that his wife of 19 years had left him without any explanation. "She hasn't contacted their daughters since she left, which was four months ago. He broke down in tears and said, 'She was my everything, do you care if I give you a hug?' And I said, 'Of course.'" Bret had an important realization as he stood there hugging the stranger in the middle of Walmart.
"There are still good men out in this world and this man is a prime example of just that." In a comment, he added, "You never know what someone is going through in life, so always be kind with every day that passes." People applauded the interaction in the comments section of the post. Rich Smith wrote, "I was homeless, living in my car for 14 months after losing my wife, who was our breadwinner. I know about this firsthand. I look at homeless people completely differently now. A larger percentage of them had the rug pulled out from under them, like me."
Nicole Walmsley commented, "My husband and I were just at the grocery store getting stuff for Thanksgiving dinner and we kept running into the same lady again and again. We noticed she said she was eating alone on Thanksgiving, so we invited her to our house to eat. God wants us to shine." Charlotte Paris remarked, "I wish the world would all show humanity towards others. Your story is truly inspiring and a testament to the good in people. You helped a father in need and showed him that kindness still exists."
