Solo hotel guest ignored two late-night calls before someone knocked on her door — staff’s response the next morning got her stay comped
A quiet hotel night can feel very different when an unexpected sound breaks the silence. Content creator Sarah Arant experienced this during a solo stay when her room phone rang late at night, followed by a knock at her door. Unsure about what was happening, she chose not to answer the first call and became more uneasy when someone appeared outside her room. The strange events continued before she could settle down again. Sarah later shared the experience on TikTok under the username @livingwithsarah on July 17, 2026, sharing how the following morning, the hotel's response to the incident led to her stay being covered.

Sarah said she had gone to bed early and was still half asleep when the room phone first rang. She initially thought it was her mobile alarm, then realized the sound was coming from the hotel phone. She ignored it and tried to sleep again. Later, close to 11:40 p.m., someone knocked on her door, causing her dogs to start barking loudly. The visitors asked if she had called for help, but she said no. The next morning, hotel staff told her there was no record of either the calls or the visit, and the hotel decided to cover her stay.
The strange night did not end with the visitors leaving. After she finally calmed down and returned to bed, the hotel phone rang again. This time, Sarah answered because she wanted to find out who was calling. Nobody spoke from the other end, so she hung up and considered unplugging the phone. "I am literally living in a horror movie right now," she said while describing how uneasy she felt. She decided that if anything else happened, she would call the police because the situation no longer seemed like a simple mistake. Her concern was understandable given the unexplained events.
The following morning, the content creator went to the front desk seeking answers about what had happened during the night. The staff said the manager would review the security cameras to understand what had taken place. Sarah said she had expected a simple explanation, such as a room mix-up or a request recorded by the front desk, but there was nothing to explain the incidents. "Please check those cameras," she said, hoping they would provide some clarity. In an update video, she shared that the manager explained the mix-up regarding an earlier maintenance request that made the staff call her and confirm whether she needed anything, and then offered compensation, eventually covering about half a night.
A simple hotel stay can also sometimes bring an odd experience. This is what happened in another incident when a family's quiet night was interrupted by an unexpected hotel visit. A mother was staying with her partner and two young children when a staff member came to their room late at night with a bottle of water. The unusual part was that the employee entered without waiting for an answer, leaving the mother uneasy. "They let themselves in straight away," she recalled. With her children asleep, she began thinking about ways to make the room safer after the incident. She later admitted, "I shouldn't feel this unsafe on a holiday."
