Two college roommates blamed the dryer when only their clothes kept shrinking — then they discovered the real culprit was the dining hall
College years are meant to create bizarre, funny, and unexpected experiences and stories, and this one definitely takes the prize. Taylor, who posts on TikTok as @tay1orwright, was shocked to see her roommate's and her own clothes shrinking during freshman year. While both were convinced that their college's washer and dryer were the reason, it came as a shock when they got to know what was actually wrong. In a video posted on October 22, 2025, Taylor shared how asking fellow peers made them realize it was never the dryer shrinking their clothes, but the dining hall.

Taylor explained that she and her roommate noticed their jeans shrinking and "knew" that the appliances were to blame. They decided to ask other students how they were addressing the issue when they learned everyone else's clothes fit just fine. When classmates suggested checking the care labels to check if they were washing everything correctly, Taylor and her roommate insisted they were doing everything right. Eventually, they had to consider the more obvious possibility. Turns out, it was never the dryer; it was the "dining hall, the drinking, the not walking, the dessert." She later admitted that their impulsive eating habits were the reason their outfits wouldn't fit anymore.
Looking back, Taylor said the real culprit was their freshman-year routine. As they ordered DoorDash and made late-night trips to the 24-hour grocery store, their eating habits had changed dramatically. She joked about buying a full-sized pan of Danish pastries and finishing it within a couple of hours, along with going through family-sized bags of chips in just two days. “It was never the dryer,” she said. The experience also shows how the college environment can influence weight-related habits. A study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health found that freshmen assigned to dorms with on-site dining halls gained more weight on average and showed more behaviors associated with weight gain than students without the same.
The study also noted reduced exercise and increased snacking as an added reason for weight gain among such youngsters. What Taylor and her roommate witnessed isn't that rare among college students. Looking back, it has become a precious and hilarious memory to hold onto. Her confession also made the viewers giggle, as many others could relate as well. @jackiechamfam added, "The fact that you both were convinced makes this funnier." @lauren96473 recalled, "Every time I had a test, I would eat ice cream. I had one almost every day, so I was having ice cream 7 days a week." @iluvcostcochurros said, "Before freshman year, I bought a pair of jeans a size bigger so it would give the baggy effect. Within 3 months, they started fitting snug, thanks to that dining hall."
