Two women at the bar kept asking the bartender if she thought she was pretty — then left no tip for a cruel reason
Service jobs can really drain the patience out of you, especially when you encounter disrespectful and frustrating customers. TikTok user Mishel Grebenchikova, who also goes by @mishagrebenchikova, shared one such anecdote on Monday, June 1, 2026. It was just another regular night at her job as a bartender when two women kept asking her bizarre questions while she served them. Although the conversation was getting awkward, Grebenchikova kept up her polite demeanor, only to be left with no tip for the most disappointing reason.
The duo first asked the woman if she thought she was pretty. Unsure how to answer, she admitted that her confidence varied from day to day, like most people. It was only after the duo finished their meal and requested the check that the intent behind the question became clear. They noted how it was certain that customers left her tips because she was good-looking. Despite assuring them that the extra dollars were for her service, they decided not to leave a tip. Their reason? She undoubtedly received them from several others, so there was no problem if they didn't leave a little something.
Grebenchikova was unsure how to respond and just told the women that what they chose to tip is up to them. As a bartender, one is supposed to smile and keep up a polite front, and while one cannot confirm whether these women had some malicious intent, it was obvious they were deliberately asking her bothersome, intrusive questions. Rude customers are not uncommon. According to Fortune, a survey conducted by Georgetown University management professor Christine Porath showed that 78% of frontline workers experienced incivility at least once a month. “People are nastier than ever to frontline employees," Porath noted. She added that this behavior affects employees and ultimately the business.
The comment section had an interesting take on what might have actually happened because even they agreed the two women were giving mean girl energy. @tracede13 said, "What they meant to say was, 'We think you’re really pretty, and it makes us really insecure and jealous.'" @pakadogs commented, "That was a really good answer. You handled that professionally and like a kind person." @bettiraige007 also wrote, "I've never seen you before. But the first thing that came to my mind when I looked at your face was my goodness, she's gorgeous." Whether the women were acting out of jealousy or a genuine belief that appearance determines income is impossible to know. What their remarks do illustrate, however, is how easily assumptions about someone's looks can overshadow the effort and professionalism that actually go into earning a living.
