Woman at the salon was scrolling through her phone when a stranger admired an old photo — but her next question left her heartbroken
Personal style is a reflection of individual choice, even if not everyone agrees with it. In a video posted on July 3, 2026, Beckett, who goes by @kellenbeckett on Instagram, recalled how a stranger noticed an old photo on her phone while she was waiting to get her nails done. One casual conversation soon ended on a disappointing note after the woman made a remark about her appearance.
Beckett explained that she was sitting in a nail salon, scrolling through Instagram while waiting for her appointment, when a woman beside her noticed a photo on her phone. Pointing at the picture, the stranger asked, "Was that you?" The content creator replied that it was an older photo taken before dyeing her blonde hair black. The woman then looked at her and asked, "You used to be so pretty; what happened?" Although the comment caught her off guard, she thanked the woman for the compliment and explained that she genuinely liked her new hair. The stranger, however, continued questioning why she would make such a change.
Beckett said she had expected a few reactions after changing her hair color because it was such a noticeable difference. Until that salon visit, however, she had only received positive feedback, making the woman's comments even more surprising. She calmly explained that she wanted a change for herself and felt happy and confident with her decision. Confidence comes from making choices that feel right for you, not from meeting someone else's expectations. The woman still refused to let the matter go, saying she would never allow her own daughters to make the same choice and insisting the young influencer had looked better before.
Instead of arguing, the Instagram user kept the conversation respectful and shared that she felt grateful to have supportive parents who liked her new look. As she left the salon, Beckett admitted she cried because the conversation briefly made her wonder if she had made the wrong decision by dyeing her hair. After reflecting on the experience, she realized she had changed her appearance for herself and did not regret it. She also encouraged others not to let someone else's opinion decide what makes them happy, reminding viewers, "Don't let them determine what you actually want to do."

In another incident, a woman named Aleisha Cavarra shared how she was out on her morning run when a man driving past rolled down his window and shouted, “Still fat.” Instead of letting the remark discourage her, she calmly questioned what he expected her to do and reminded herself that she was still working toward her goals. She ended her response by saying, “Seriously, grow up,” adding that she was still trying to better herself and would rather choose kindness than cruelty.
