When someone is in a life-threatening situation, they use every second to ask for help or find ways to help themselves. It is crucial to pay attention to minute details, even in ordinary situations. A Utah locksmith named Greg had gone to a client’s home to work and noticed something unusual, per WVLT8. Before he could leave, he had an encounter with the woman at the house. She insisted on showing him her palm, and when he saw it, he was pushed to dial 911. His keen observation and swift action managed to save the woman’s life.

The man had gone to a client’s home to change a lock. However, he noticed something seemed off. “There was a gentleman that was kind of hovering over her, wouldn’t get more than a foot away,” Greg recalled. Nevertheless, he did not intervene at the time. When his job was done, and he was passing the invoice to the woman, he realized she was asking for help as discreetly as possible. She held up her palm for the locksmith to see. “She’s holding up her hand with her palm open and she has 911 written on her hand. So, obviously, that drew some attention from me, but I was wearing a mask and couldn’t mouth anything to her,” Greg explained.

Furthermore, Greg noticed the woman asking the man for her phone so she could pay him. “That was another red flag. Then, again, she’s showing me the 911 to make sure I saw it, and I made eye contact with her to basically let her know that yeah, I saw it,” he mentioned. The locksmith left and immediately decided to act on the woman’s message and call the police. The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the woman’s home and arrested the man, identified as Grant Eggertson. He was charged with kidnapping and a few other felonies. According to Crime Grade, the rate of kidnapping in Utah is 0.4659 per 1000 residents.

The Wasatch County Sheriff's Office said, “The female stated that during the argument, Eggertsen assaulted her and would not allow her to leave her room or house,” 2 KUTV. He previously dated the woman, and later, when she started seeing another person, he got upset. It led him to enter her home, to which he had spare keys, and he assaulted and threatened her. It was later revealed that Greg was called to change locks as the woman did not want Eggertson trespassing and entering against her will.

Speaking about his act and his experience, Greg noted that he was doing the right thing and commended the woman for her sharp thinking. “I would have been second-guessing myself if I didn’t do anything. The lady was pretty smart to be able to do what she did. It’s not like I was trying to guess what was really going on. She gave me some great clues that there was an issue there,” he remarked. Greg added that he was glad to know that the woman was safe and that Eggertson was arrested.
