The details of a tombstone are picked thoughtfully by loved ones. Though a few sentences cannot encapsulate the love for the deceased, it aims to resemble it closely. Reading these statements leaves a bittersweet feeling that touches the hearts of many, even if they are strangers. A woman named Angie Kukacka–who goes by @angiekukacka on TikTok–revealed that she came across one such gravestone outside her new home. When she read the engraved words, she was pushed to make a precious promise to the former owners. The sentimental reality has left people in tears.

Kukacka was sweeping her yard when she came across a tiny tombstone. As she swept all the dirt to analyze it further, she saw a paw engraved on it, too. Along with it, there were 2 lines engraved that moved the internet to tears. The tombstone was likely of a pet of the former owners who had been buried in their yard after a lifetime of love and bonding. Having loved their pets no less than their own family members, pet parents ensure that their last rites are conducted respectfully. Many even have funerals, caskets and other items just as for a deceased human, per Titan Basket.

There are many emerging pet cemeteries and funeral homes due to the increasing demand for pet funerals, per Insight. Owners are opting to have respectful rites, and they do so either by burying their pets in pet cemeteries or cremating them and holding on to their ashes. For many people, burying their pets in their yards or homes is a means of keeping them close even after they’re gone. Sometimes, it can be done to cut the costs of pet cemeteries and funerals, and other times, it’s purely out of love and tradition.

Kukacka realized that there was deep sentiment attached to the deceased pet, and though the former owners were no longer in the home, they undoubtedly left a piece of their heart there. The tear-jerking words on the gravestone made it even clearer, per Newsweek. It read, “If love could have saved the world, you would have lived." Kukacka was moved by the profound words and decided to make a promise to the former owners. “To the person who lived in my house before me - I want to assure you that your pet’s grave will forever be taken care of. I will tend to it just as I’m sure you attended to their sweet soul,” she wrote in a text overlay.

Her sentiment touched the hearts of many pet parents. However, it was not just a gesture, but a relieving reassurance for pet parents to know that people like Kukacka exist. @b4tmandy wrote, “Thank you. My parents buried all my childhood pets in our backyard, and they’re moving in a few years. I’m terrified someone might dig them out and toss them away like trash.” @southernbelle237 said, “I have two dogs and a cat buried in my backyard. Now we’re talking about moving. My head hurts about having to leave them behind.” @ahen172 added, “I don’t know why this makes me cry, but your soul is so sweet.”
