Woman let her ex use her Netflix after their breakup — then his new girlfriend’s profile made her change the password
Breakups rarely end as cleanly as people pretend they do because little traces of shared lives tend to linger in strange places. Most of the time, those leftover connections feel harmless at first. Until one tiny detail suddenly reminds someone that while they were busy moving on quietly, another person may have gotten far too comfortable staying in spaces that no longer belonged to them. A Threads user who goes by @shewasoncealovergirl shared one such anecdote on Thursday, May 28, 2026. After having a somewhat amicable breakup with her boyfriend, she almost forgot about the Netflix account the two shared until she noticed some strange activity on the account she paid for.
Months after quietly breaking up with her boyfriend, she opened Netflix one day and immediately noticed something strange. A new profile named “♡J+M♡” had appeared, along with a watch history full of romantic movies, dating reality shows, and random anime she had never touched. At first, she laughed it off and texted her ex asking why his “new girl” was all over the Netflix account. But his response instantly irritated her. “It’s not that serious,” he replied, even though the new girlfriend had apparently already changed her Netflix profile picture to “a sad little cat.” Suddenly, what had seemed mildly awkward started feeling far more disrespectful, especially because she was still the one paying for the subscription.
The petty profile customization on an account she still paid for ended up being the final straw, and she immediately changed all of her passwords. Even then, her ex still tried turning the situation back on her, texting, “You’re childish. We could’ve shared it until I got my own.” But things became even more irritating after the supposed “new girlfriend” allegedly posted something shady online about “bitter exes.” Despite all of that, the creator herself did not seem especially heartbroken or dramatic about the situation. More than anything, she sounded baffled that two people evidently trying to “play house” together still expected unlimited access to subscriptions funded by someone else.
Readers were clearly annoyed and criticized the new girlfriend's audacity. @amber_as_collins777 remarked, "I would've publicly dragged both of them. She should be embarrassed, but she's too busy having no standards." Meanwhile, @amyliz32000 commented, "Good job breaking up with him since the dude doesn’t even have $14.99 a month for Netflix!"
@floopeygirl joked, "I hope they were up to the last episode of something..." Modern relationships leave behind strange digital footprints long after people stop speaking to each other. Sometimes the awkward reality of moving on does not show up through heartbreak or dramatic fights, but through tiny moments that suddenly make old boundaries feel painfully obvious.
