Woman living with cancer had no idea a passenger mocked her hair loss during a flight — by the time she found out, justice had been served
Sometimes, being clueless about what people say about you can be a blessing in disguise. Courtney Benson, who shares her life on Instagram as @justagirlwithcancer, experienced an unexpected situation during a flight from Dallas to Las Vegas. In a video shared on October 18, 2026, she explained that the journey was already delayed, with passengers having to get off the plane and board a replacement flight about an hour later. Courtney sat by the window, with her headphones on, when a woman behind her tapped her shoulder and apologized. Confused, Courtney asked what she was sorry for, and then the answer left her stunned.

Courtney said the woman had been making comments about her hair and appearance since the first flight. After passengers had to switch planes, she continued talking about Courtney, who had her headphones on and knew nothing about it. Just as the replacement flight was about to leave, the woman decided to get off, frustrating the other passengers. A flight attendant spoke with the crew, who agreed that “she needs to go.” Courtney was still confused when the woman behind her tapped her shoulder and said, "I am so sorry." When Courtney asked why, the woman explained that the passenger had been saying unkind things about her hair. Courtney was stunned. "My hair? I was like, for real? It's like, that is wild," she recalled.

Courtney explained that after the plane landed in Las Vegas, the passengers were still talking about how the woman disrupted the flight. The man who sat next to Courtney admitted he had heard the comments but wasn't sure whether he should speak up. The woman behind Courtney tapped her shoulder again and reassured her, saying, “I just want to tell you for the record, like you are stunningly beautiful.” Courtney was still stunned by the whole thing. Gabe, her partner who was sitting across the aisle from her, later told her that the woman had been talking about losing her hair and undergoing chemotherapy on the first flight. Courtney wondered if seeing her bald head had somehow triggered the woman's reaction, though she couldn't understand why someone would take their struggles out on a stranger.

Her story drew plenty of support in the comments. An Instagram user @nferretti4 wrote, “People can be so unkind. Glad you had your earphones on. God was protecting you!” Another commenter, @blakeleydiane, loved Courtney's comment writing, "Ok I love you say at the end, "I hope you missed your flight." lol." Meanwhile, @tonijacobs57 wrote, “Ignorance is bliss." Courtney ended her story by wishing the woman “the day you deserve” and adding, “I hope you missed your other flight.”

This isn't the first time a passenger has made unkind comments about someone on a flight and upset the people around them. Another woman had a similar experience on a Delta flight when she noticed an older couple making fun of her appearance. Since she speaks Spanish, she could read a message on the woman's phone calling her the only "fat person" on the flight and later realized the couple had secretly taken pictures of her. When she confronted them, they denied it, but another couple nearby offered to switch seats with her and showed their support.
