Woman put groceries beside candy for trick-or-treaters as an experiment — what her camera caught that night changed her Halloween tradition for good
With Halloween just around the corner, candy, spooky decorations, and other festive touches are everywhere. While the celebration is associated with scares, horror, and similar themes, kindness can fit anywhere. One woman from Texas, who goes by @teilio on Threads, decided to do just that. In her post shared on October 22, 2026, she mentioned that she had experimented with putting out groceries alongside candy outside her door for the famous trick-or-treat tradition. What she later saw on her camera prompted her to make this addition a permanent one.
Last year, the woman left the usual bucket of candy, but she also left food items on her porch, encouraging people to take what they needed. She thought it would be a nice way to help and add a twist to her trick-or-treating tradition. To her surprise, most of the food items were taken, but the candy was left behind. It made her realize how many people might be struggling and gave her hope that her simple experiment could help. Later, when she looked through her camera, she saw a boy excited to pick up mac and cheese. “He probably thought it was funny, but it was one meal his parents wouldn’t have to pay for,” she remarked.
Seeing the impact the gesture had, she decided to make it a tradition. She noted that she planned to leave other essentials, such as feminine products, deodorant, toiletries, and baby supplies. She hopes that the community will also pitch in with donations as little as $1 to $5. The woman noted that whatever was left over would be donated. Within days, she received over $90, and the amount kept increasing. In an update shared on Monday, October 26, 2026, she showed her trunk full of groceries and a receipt totaling more than $200. “If you can’t contribute, pray that good wins, people get support and help, and that those in need are taken care of,” she noted.

The spooky season inspires people to get creative, and sometimes those efforts touch people's hearts and make a difference. In another story, a man decided to put up a family skeleton display in his yard. He received hate mail from many, condemning his work and assuming he had evil ideas and intentions. However, one piece of mail stopped him in his tracks. It was from a cancer patient who had passed by his home. At first, the man feared that the display reminded her of death and left her feeling hopeless. However, the opposite was true.

She reached out to let him know that the display gave her something to giggle about on her way to her last radiation appointment. “The bone family and what they are up to...(is) a highlight of my journey," she wrote. The man teared up when he learned that he had brought a smile to a stranger’s face while she was struggling. It’s easy to go with the flow, but standing out to make a difference is where humanity shines.
