When we are in a hurry, we fail to notice certain things. However, such mishaps can lead to serious consequences. Threads user Greg Shumchenia (@gregshum) was at the airport when he noticed a woman was about to get into a cab. The visual seemed off, and so he immediately intervened to make one request of the stranger. The single remark possibly averted a huge threat. The Threads user shared the story on March 26, 2024, and the internet has been praising the man for his vigilance and astute response.

Shumchenia noticed a woman at the Atlanta Airport approaching an Uber. The driver was parked outside with the tailgate pulled up, and she quickly asked, "Uber for Jessica?" The driver nodded, and without thinking much, the woman was ready to get into the vehicle. In the rush, she didn't check any other details. That's when the good Samaritan stepped in. "I usually don't intervene, but I felt weird having read a bunch of bad Uber experiences from women lately," he remarked. He simply asked her to double-check the license plate. After he made the request, she lowered the tailgate to check, only to realize that he was indeed right; she was going to get into the wrong car. The man expressed his relief after ensuring the woman was safe and aware.

According to a The New York Times report, Uber received reports of sexual assault in the U.S. almost every eight minutes between 2017 and 2022. However, the report highlighted that despite receiving warnings from previous passengers, Uber failed to warn new passengers about the attacks linked to their workers. "Hundreds of the records have been under seal as part of large-scale sexual assault litigation against Uber," the report noted. The man realized the tailgate was up, and the woman would miss out on checking the number plate due to the hurry. However, he interrupted her and pointed it out, making all the difference.

Shumchenia's post received several reactions from online users who shared their thoughts on the same. @goldengateblond wrote, "Well done. If I can't see the plate, I always ask who they're waiting for (without giving them my name first). Women have got to learn to advocate for themselves and their own safety." @danny_pa_lo wrote, "Thank you for taking care of us. Many women would tell me not to praise you for 'doing the bare minimum'. But you could have also done nothing. Thank you." @suziedayvees shared, "Always ask who they are picking up. Never say your name first. All they have to do is nod and say yes to whatever name you give them. Always check the plate as well." @techhomebodied added, "I'm glad you followed your instincts! I'm sure she appreciated it."
