Friendship is one of the most bizarrely priceless bonds that no one can explain. However, sometimes we feel like we’re liabilities, constantly needing our friends and their help, forgetting what the bond truly entails. There is nothing worse than feeling like a burden to your loved ones. An author named Jervy Fermin was inspired to share a noteworthy message about ‘being a burden’ in friendship after she had a reflective encounter. After a rollercoaster of an experience that left her hospitalized, the woman found herself ‘burdening’ her friends but through this feeling came one of the most crucial understandings that is a must-read for all.

The woman recalled being in a state of “unraveling panic” and saw just how effectively her friends came through. “One picked me up from the hospital without even knowing why I was there, just understanding that I needed someone by my side. Another rushed to my place after work because she knew I needed saving from my own mind,” Fermin wrote. Her friends understood the intricacies and the abstract calling friendship holds. They showed up when she felt like the worst version of herself and loved her throughout. “These moments—where I allowed myself to be a burden showed me that our friendship is more than coffee dates and laughter; it’s an unspoken promise to be there, no matter how dark it gets,” she remarked.

“‘You can burden me,’ it might be the most honest love language my friends have ever given me,” she said. Revisiting these experiences, she knew that it’s just about the best gift to give to your friends- to let them be a burden. “‘You can burden me,’ is the same love language I offer to them,” she confidently wrote. Whether it’s physical or mental barriers, silence, or chaos, nothing can be impossible to deal with in the stronghold of friendship. “Tell me your darkest thoughts, and I'll listen without judgment. Call me when it’s 2 am and anxiety won’t let you sleep,” she noted. The woman went on to note all the little ways we can let our friends “be a burden.”

“Come over when home doesn’t feel safe, and you need an escape. Vent to me when you had the worst day at work. When it feels like everyone is against you, I can assure you: I’m on your side,” she wrote. To unapologetically ‘be a burden’ is what a one-of-a-kind friendship calls for. To show all the scars, the hurt and the darkest side and have the strongest people holding on tight. “Lean on me when everything feels too heavy to bear alone. Let me share in your pain, you don’t have to carry it all in silence,” Fermin added. She noted that friends may not always have the answers and know what to do but listening, being there and sharing the weight that gets unbearable is what every bond calls for.

She concluded with a message that is a heartfelt reminder from every true friend to another. She wrote, “Burden me because our friendship isn’t fragile. It’s the kind that weathers storms and finds strength in the chaos. When life unravels, I'll help you piece things back one by one. So let me be there, so you never feel alone in the struggle. Together, we’ll carry what we can, until it’s lighter. Burden me.”
