14-month-old boy saw his mom dissolve into tears next to him - his powerful response stunned her

Babies might understand things better than what we give them credit for. They also might feel deeply for the people around them after a certain time. A 14-month-old boy's reaction to his mom crying could be considered living proof of how much they feel. A mom had a difficult time one night and was crying as she sat beside her toddler at the dinner table and got an unexpected reaction. The mom, Taylor, who goes by @taysue on TikTok, shared a video on TikTok that left people on the internet in awe of the baby.

"14-month-old reacts to mommy having a hard night," the text overlay of the video read. The baby and the mom were sitting at a table when the woman started crying. Her baby turned to her and seemed to be wondering what had happened. He held onto his mom's sleeve as she continued crying. "I kept telling him I was okay and he kept hugging me," the mom explained as she tried to look at the baby and reassure him that everything was fine. But the toddler still pulled onto her and gave her a big hug. Taylor felt that it was exactly what she needed at that moment as she kissed her son's head. The baby whined a little and held onto his mom's arm to console her.
"Was having a minute while my toddler was eating dinner and he kept hugging me so I turned on the camera. Want to remember his sweet heart from the start," the caption to the video read. "My husband was working a little later than usual and I was going through our normal after-work routine with our son. I knew he was tired so I was rushing to get him dinner and a bath and in bed. I had a moment of overwhelm," the mom told Newsweek, explaining why she cried in the first place. She felt guilty that she had to rush through things even though she didn't get enough time with her child anyway. The video received more than 17.5 million views and over 3.4 million views.
People took to the comments section of the video to express their thoughts on the sweet moment between the mom and son. @_di_laraa wrote, "I personally hated seeing my mom sad so I became a huge empath, full of anxiety and people pleaser. I don't recommend." @sashatasha12 commented, "Unpopular opinion, it’s ok for our kids to see us be human. They may see us cry but they see us get back up and keep going, which is more important than not showing emotions in front of them."

@tanyadenisselop remarked, "I yelled at my toddler today because I was so overwhelmed with a crying baby and her screaming and yelling and she started giving me kisses and patting my back. I cried even more and hated myself for yelling at her. Being a mom is hard work." @jadesoph shared, "Showing no emotions around your children is exactly why this generation of children are becoming less empathetic. There's nothing wrong with this." @patty80859 expressed, "As a kindergarten teacher, it's okay for a child to see their mother crying. It reflects the child's care and love for their mother, showing that they can sense and empathize with her sadness."
