The most important thing to do when one comes across an accident or injury is to call for help. How quickly help is requested makes a major difference in deciding the outcome of the situation. A 16-year-old girl named Leslie Leskovac was driving back home by herself when she came across an accident, as reported by 21WFMJ. The teenager was by herself, helpless, when the crash took place. Fortunately, a feature on her iPhone became a life-saving aid at the right time. Leskovac had just dropped a friend home in her pickup truck and was heading to her own place when she started feeling exhausted.

She was sleepy but had to stay awake until she got home. Unfortunately, the fatigue took over her and she fell asleep while driving. It caused her truck to crash into poles and a tree. The vehicle stopped near a waterbody, but the 16-year-old was trapped inside her seat, unable to call for help. However, first responders had shortly learned of her dire situation, thanks to her iPhone 14. The device has a feature that senses when a crash takes place and automatically dials 911. According to Apple, the feature is available on iPhone 14 and later models as well as on Apple Watches.

It uses a cellular connection or WiFi calling to connect to the emergency services. Known as the “Crash Detection” feature, it immediately called dispatchers who began speaking to Leskovac to get her to come to her senses. The teenager’s mom, Laura, noted that her daughter regained her consciousness only after hearing the dispatcher’s voice. "[Lindsay] must have heard the [dispatcher's] voice calling out to her, so she was actually on [the phone] for 22 minutes. This technology enabled the rescue workers to be able to find her," she said. Initially, the mom had no idea about the feature and wanted to find out who made the call.

"The person from the fire and rescue told me that 911 said the phone initiated the call. I discovered that iPhones have an automatic crash detection on them, if you have the setting on," she mentioned. The 16-year-old faced severe injuries, including pelvic and hip fractures and a broken cervical spine. However, the genius feature turned miraculous in getting help on time and even helped her regain consciousness. Leskovac is undergoing treatment and is expected to recover over time. While the family is grateful, they are urging people to use technology to their advantage.

The mother emphasized how important and life-saving it can be, like in the case of her daughter. The feature can be accessed using the following steps:

- Open the Settings app.

- Scroll down to the Emergency SOS section.

- An option titled “Call After Severe Crash” or “Crash Detection” will be available. This must be switched on.

- As a further measure, people can also add Emergency Contacts in the Health app to notify family or loved ones in case of unfortunate circumstances.

Even a little help makes a major difference when it comes to unprecedented situations such as these, and having smart measures in place is ideal.
