Two students found old man collapsed on a steep hill and called emergency services—they had no idea cops were looking for him

Being aware of one’s surroundings is a crucial act. Whether walking on the road or even while commuting via public transport, the people and places we encounter must be observed. What’s more important is to call out or notify authorities about something suspicious or unusual. Two school girls, Suzie Wilde and Lydia Thompson, managed to find a person the police had been hunting by simply observing and taking basic action, per Yorkshire Live. The students saw the man collapse and didn’t hesitate to alert the emergency services. Their one call became a key lead for the cops.

The South Yorkshire Police had been looking for a man in his 80s. The latter had gone missing and was being searched for a while. The police were reportedly worried for the man due to his advanced age and other health concerns. Despite frantically searching, there were no clues found. The officers also spread word and asked locals to be on the lookout for the man to hasten the search and find him as soon as possible. The 12-year-olds didn't expect to find the man. However, when they spotted a stranger lying unconscious on the road, they acted bravely. They immediately dialed 999 and let them know about the missing person.

Wilde and Thomspon also took it on themselves to wait with the man until the police arrived and took the necessary measures. The man was fine, received treatment and was reunited with his family. People, including the officers and authorities, are commending the girls for their excellent observation and action. They came through as key leads when there were no hopes of finding the man. Sergeant Chris Rogers commended the girls for their bravery. He noted, “Officers were concerned for the man's welfare due to a number of vulnerabilities and Suzie and Lydia's actions arguably saved his life.” They were also awarded with commendations from the officers.

In a similar instance, 3 teenagers were returning from a party at night when they spotted an unusual bright light at a distance, per The Washington Post. After observing the same, they bravely decided to check it out. When they got closer, they realized the light was actually a house on fire. They quickly dialed 911 and stepped into action without fear. “I was like, ‘We got to go in quick,' and then we knocked on the door, nothing. We had to open the door and wake them up,” 16-year-old Colby recalled. When they opened the door, they saw an elderly man sleeping on the couch.

They quickly woke him up and helped him out. He even got his wife from the other room and the duo managed to escape without injuries, thanks to the boys. The couple had no idea that their house was on fire. “If we gave it another 20 minutes, the whole house would have been on fire where they were sleeping. I’m just happy we got them out safely and nobody was harmed,” the teenager said. Dover-Foxcroft Fire Chief Brian Gaudet noted, “It changes our response knowing everybody’s out of the building.” Kaleb, another teen, said, “Don’t hesitate. Do the right thing.”
