16-year-old wears sequined red gown to prom - his whole school couldn't stop cheering him on
Being supportive of a person is one of the most thoughtful things someone can do. Respecting them and vouching for them to be themselves is all they want. A mom, Nina Green, revealed that her teenage son had a wholesome wish to wear a sequined gown and shine bright on his prom day, per BBC News. The mom was ever ready to support his thoughts and preferences but he was astounded when he found overwhelming support from the school as well.
Sharing in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the mom wrote, “At age 12, my son announced he wanted to go to his school prom in a gown.” While there was still time for it to happen, the Green supported her gay son throughout. Four years later, the mom made it happen when it was finally time.” I’m so incredibly proud of him for being true to himself and the reception he got from his whole school was incredible,” she wrote. The boy donned a completely red outfit with a red sequined suit on the top and a skirt for the gown in a bright red flowy material. He also carried a red purse, and a red bow and put on a bright and cheerful makeover to sport the look.
While the mother had her son’s back, she was surprised by the way the school and her son’s classmates accepted and supported his preference. "As soon as he got out of the car, everyone just cheered and I was crying, some of the teachers were crying, because he was being who he wanted to be," she said. Everyone cheered on the boy and hyped him up, not just for his look but because he pulled off being his honest self. "If you let your child be who they are, you'll get nothing but the best out of them. There are people in the world who still don't understand, but the feeling of acceptance, you can't beat that feeling,” Green remarked. It’s not so much the red or the gown that took everyone’s heart but the courage, the smile and the joy with which the boy pulled off his look.
