27-yr-old has spot-on response to boomer mocking Gen Zs for ‘complaining' about 40-hour work week’— it’s eye-opening

It is no news that the economy has shifted and it has impacted almost every aspect of life. With each generation comes different ideas about work-life balance, careers and more. The younger generations often seem uninterested in putting in rigorous hours at work, but they have their reasons. A comedian, Rick Mercer, called out Gen Zs for supposedly being unable to manage 40-hour work weeks and lacking the potential to work as dedicatedly as older generations, per Fortune. However, 27-year-old Robbie Scott (@robbiesmoonmusic) responded to his viral clip and spoke on behalf of Gen Zs in a since-deleted video.

Scott highlighted that younger people are no longer invested in hard-core jobs or working hours because they “get nothing” in return. He wrote, “Most boomers don't know what it's like to work 40+ hours a week and still not be able to afford a house and food so let me walk you through it." Speaking in terms of the economy and surviving with the current finances, Scott mentioned that it’s a whole different ballgame. “We need to stop expecting the same people who bought a four-bedroom home and a brand-new Cadillac convertible off of a $30,000-a-year salary to understand what it’s like to be working 40-plus hours a week with a master’s degree and still not being able to afford a 400-square-foot studio apartment in Iowa,” he remarked.

He strongly pointed out that the way money worked back in the day is nowhere close to what it is now. He used the reality of millennials being unable to afford homes despite working for most of their lives as an example to point out the dilemma. He went on to say that the case has only gotten worse over time and it’s what’s holding the younger people back. Scott didn’t hesitate to reveal how betrayed the younger generations felt by the rapid change in the economy. "We're not getting angry and entitled and whiny because we can't work nine-to-fives — yes we can. We do it every day,” he said, per Buzzfeed.
“What’s sh*tty is we’re holding up our end of the deal. We’re staying in school. We’re going to college. We’ve been working since we were 15, 16 years old…doing everything that you all told us to do so that we can do what? Still live in our parents’ homes in our late twenties?” he questioned. Scott justified being angry and bugged at the economy and the world because of receiving poor treatment and getting poor returns despite giving it their all. And he’s not wrong. Millennials are reportedly the most educated generation, followed by Gen Zs, per Unusual Whales.

Despite their ranks, the availability of jobs is significantly less while the competition is irrationally high. Scott added a striking statement, “Millennials and Gen Z are working more than any other generation ever has. We are also making considerably and disproportionately much less than any other generation has.” Leaving a confident concluding message, the man said, “That is why some of us are crying. That's why some of us are angry. Cause you don't get it, you will never get it and you should be thanking God for that."
