3-year-old following mom to her car suddenly started shouting, 'Help, help' — his quick action saved neighbor's life

Children have curious minds that understand situations even at a younger age. Though still developing, they comprehend basic emotions, situations and often act on their impulses. A 3-year-old boy, Jaxon Lopez, did not hesitate to act after noticing something unusual, per WTKR News. Though he did not understand much at the time, his sheer observation, curiosity and impulsive action to yell to his mother, Kelsea Sprouse, for help, made a life-saving difference. Sprouse arrived at her grandmother’s place to pick up her son. Before she could take him home, she had to move a basket of clothes to her car.

Normally, the mom did not allow her son to come out without a jacket, but this time, when the 3-year-old followed his mom, she did not take much notice. "I didn't think twice about it; he just walked out with me to the car,” she recalled. Suddenly, Lopez began to yell, “Help, help.” The mom was unsure why her son had been asking for help, especially when he was in front of her eyes. She initially thought he was repeating something he had heard or seen. However, the little boy began to run to their neighbor’s yard. Confused, the mom doubted something was wrong and headed over in the direction her son was running.

The mom asked loudly, “Does somebody need help?” She immediately heard a faint response coming from the neighbor’s yard. When she rushed there, she found a woman bleeding in the middle of her garage on the ground. Sprouse immediately dialed 911 and asked her 3-year-old to go get his grandmother to help. The brave little boy raced back to the house, pounded on the door and yelled, “Ganny, neighbor, help!” The grandmother was too confused to understand what the boy was saying. "I'm thinking he's playing because nothing like that has ever happened,” she noted.

The mom and grandmother helped the neighbor, who was previously sick and had fallen in the kitchen, causing her to bleed. She made her way to the garage and managed to yell for help, which the boy luckily heard. The woman recovered and was doing well and credited the 3-year-old for being vigilant and playing an instrumental role in saving her life. “She's saying that's her hero and she couldn't have made it without him,” Sprouse remarked. According to Franklin Park Borough, children can understand and sense danger or unexpected scenarios.
In such cases, kids need to have some idea of what to do after identifying danger or trouble. Parents must prepare their kids to respond to such situations as best as possible — whether it means taking refuge, calling emergency services or even yelling for help, like Lopez did in his case. The mom was immensely proud of her son. She even took him out for a toy after they all settled in from the unprecedented incident. He was even happy to go to the neighbor’s house with flowers. "I just want him to know what he did was great and I want to keep instilling that. Those are the things we should be teaching our kids,” the mom noted.
