3-year-old saw his great-grandmother bleeding after hitting her head on a concrete stoop and heroically saved her life

We often think that children can't help much, especially when it comes to emergencies and serious situations. However, during unprecedented times, even the little help they offer with their obedience and bravery accounts for much. A 3-year-old boy, Bridger, offered the simplest help to save the life of his great-grandmother, Sharon Lewis, per TODAY. The woman had fallen down the steps and hit her head on the concrete when the toddler spotted her bleeding. His bravery managed to avoid a possibly fatal result. Bridger was with his great-grandmother, who was babysitting him as his parents had taken his sister to the emergency room due to an injury when the incident took place.

Lewis was walking with the help of a walker and slipped, causing her to fall down the stairs brutally. “She tripped and she was bleeding. And then it (her skin) popped open,” the 3-year-old recalled. Recounting the incident, Lewis remembered much of it and hailed her great-grandson a hero for his strong and thoughtful reaction. “I never lost consciousness and I knew I was bleeding. I tried to wipe the blood out of my eyes. Bridger was standing there and asked, ‘Are you okay? There’s a lot of blood,’” she mentioned.

With just the duo alone at home, there was a worry as to what would be done. “I didn’t know what to do — I couldn’t get up and it was cold,” the great-grandmother said. Bridger being the only one to help and act, it was all dependent on how the boy would handle the scenario. Lewis then decided to ask little Bridger for help and he unhesitatingly stepped in. “I asked Bridger to go to the car where I left my phone. He was brave. I knew he could do it, but I was worried because it was a big job,” she recalled. Going out in the dark and icy setting as Bridger had to is no task for a 3-year-old. He admitted that he was frightened but decided to bravely step out anyway.

The camera captured footage of the boy amping himself up to walk out to the car and get the job done, per 9 News. “Don’t be afraid," he constantly repeated to himself. He ran towards the car, got the phone and returned, feeling victorious and proud. After getting his hands on the phone successfully, the little tot yelled gladly, “I got it!” His calm and bravery throughout made the situation even more manageable. Lewis quickly asked for help once she got her hands on the phone. When the emergency services arrived, the 3-year-old was taken to a neighbor's house so he could rest up safely.
Looking back at the situation, Bridger is glad to call himself a “big kid” who “can help.” Lewis suffered a concussion and received 22 staples in her head. She is healing and recovering well and is immensely grateful for her 3-year-old who acted responsibly throughout. “He’s quite a blessing, he’s a little monkey. If it hadn’t been for Bridger, I don’t know what would have happened,” she remarked.
