Photo of a grandma with an injured grandpa who bravely saved her from a speeding van embodies pure love

Being in love is a courageous thing to do. It requires a person to become selfless and put their loved one’s needs and safety before their own. It means risking one’s life to save the other’s. An 85-year-old man, Max Green, was heading to his car with his wife, Nathalene Green, 83, when the duo met with a brutal accident, per Kindness Blog. Things happened so fast, but Max ensured he put his beloved wife’s safety first and saved her, sustaining the injuries. The couple's grandkid, u/SpoonHandle, shared a picture of Max in the hospital bed, recovering well with his wife right by his side and the story is a brave example of love.

The duo had finished with an event and were headed towards their car across the street when they came into a brutal collision with a drunk driver who was speeding, per EA Courier. Eastern Arizona Museum Director Edres Barney recalled that the couple said goodbye, after which they heard a sudden “screech and thud.” "It was a guy under the influence. He was arrested and is being charged with driving under the influence and assault," the grandkid shared about the driver in the comments. However, the grandpa “pushed grandma out of the way before getting run over,” the caption of the post explained. This caused the elderly man to bear the hit, sustaining several injuries. Nathalene fell to the ground but was mostly unharmed.

In a comment, it was mentioned that the crash was so bad that it was hard to tell if Max even made it. “Once she got up, she thought he was dead. When we got the phone call, we couldn't believe what had happened and all thought we'd lost Grandpa,” the comment read. Luckily, the man was alive but sustained many injuries. The police escorted the couple to the hospital. He had “multiple broken vertebrae in his neck and back, broken hip, ribs, leg, fingers on his right hand. His left arm was torn up pretty badly. Has already had surgery on his neck and leg. They're expecting a full recovery but many months of physical therapy,” the grandkid revealed in another comment. Mitchell Beals, a person who had known the couple and was present, also assisted them.

“One of the things about Max is he always has a great smile on his face and he’s always cheerful. One of the first things I thought was, I hope this doesn’t mess up his smile,” Beals recalled. The post shared a picture of the man recovering in the hospital while his wife stands by his side. Despite having multiple scars, bandages, pipes and whatnot, a faint smile is visible on the lion-hearted grandpa’s face. Nathalene also is undoubtedly lifting his spirits with her warmth and love as he recovers. People are awestruck by the man’s gesture. They applauded Max for not caring about his own life and making the astute decision to save his wife first.
