50 years after their divorce, woman and her ex-husband 'reconnected like two teens' and got remarried

Fay Gable and Robert Wenrich from Pennsylvania never thought they would get to say "I do" to each other again 50 years after their divorce. But a funny thing about love is that it will always find you, no matter what. The duo tied the knot decades ago and even divorced, reported The Washington Post. However, around half a century later, they were reunited by a stroke of fate and the next thing they knew, they were looking forward to their remarriage with a new sense of love and belonging for each other. Wenrich and Gable became husband and wife when she was a teen and he was in his twenties in 1951.

After 24 years of a blissful marriage and four children, the duo somehow had a tiff and found divorce to be their solution. Strangely, the couple separated and married different partners but stayed in touch. They remained devoted to their duty as parents and even though they carried on with their individual lives, one was always in good proximity to the other. There was no awkwardness or hesitation as such. Carol Smith, youngest daughter of the two, noted, “A lot of times, divorce is bitter and painful and people never get past it. But our parents did. They’d even sit together in the same pew at church.”

There was never a plan to get back together as such but fate made it happen. As a widow and widower, Gable and Wenrich were drifting through life in a secluded and lonely manner. When Smith noticed the same, she invited both her parents to hang out with her and her husband for games and more. That’s when something sparked between the two all over again. “They started hanging out together a lot and it was obvious they really enjoyed each other’s company,” Smith said. What followed was simple and adorable moments and even a jackpot that eventually got the duo back together. After Wenrich won the lottery, he described Gable as his “lucky charm.”

Eventually, the duo began dating and started from square one again. “We reconnected like two teenagers. We got to know each other all over again,” the woman remarked. With simple dates and “sneaking out” to the casino and all the jazz, they fell in love, once again. Smith noticed a “spark” between the two and didn’t hesitate to make it one for life. She received a call from her mum wondering whether she should change her last name or not and that was when it struck to her that the lovebirds were finally reuniting. “I said, ‘Does that mean you’re getting married?’ and my mom said, ‘Yes, it does,’” Smith recounted.
“I was delighted. As soon as I hung up the phone with her, I booked the venue and the pastor for them before I’d finished my lunch break,” she excitedly revealed. Parkhill Jewelry also shared a post on Facebook of the duo picking wedding rings together, mesmerized by their story. Wenrich gladly noted that he was “thankful for a second chance.” He added, “Everything sort of fell into place to bring us back together.”
