The perspective of love is different for each person. However, many will agree that love lies in the simplest expressions. Cooking a meal, coming home early, getting flowers or maybe even writing a letter. An elderly couple in New Jersey found their meaning in love through handwritten notes and letters, per ABC News. Bill and Kirsten Bresnan have been on their romantic spree for 40 years with the humble act of writing love letters. The man, who began writing notes and scribbled messages, soon improvised into wholesome and heart-melting letters for his wife daily. His commitment to writing no matter where and how he is has us spellbound.

Bill met Kirsten decades ago and recalled their first meeting “striking like a bolt of lightning.” The man made coffee and other small dates more meaningful by writing small messages on napkins and so on. That’s how their written doses of love took root. Soon, these became full-fledged letters and other meaningful written expressions of love that Bill would create randomly. “I would scribble something on one of the napkins and that developed shortly thereafter, into periodic cards and slowly evolved into one every day, “Bill said, in an interview. The couple soon married and his habit of writing grew stronger. In 40 years, the man has written over 10,000 letters to his wife.

Kirsten cherishes each of them and has them recorded in order in boxes as prized possessions. Writing every day for 4 decades is no joke and requires serious commitment. How did Bill make it happen? Despite trips, sickness and whatnot, writing to his wife was a top priority. He’d either mail them or write them in advance but ensure that his wife had a message to read. “They mean everything really to me. I have said that I would be so heartbroken if there was a night when I didn't get a card,” Kirsten said. The letters were all simple messages overflowing with love. “Thank you for being you and loving me,” one of the notes read.

Right from a message of gratitude, reminiscing about a date, eagerness to check out a place and so on, Bill ensured that his gesture was full of love. There has been one special sign that he ensured to have on every note and message. "All the letters are signed, 'I love you, my darling' with an infinity sign. They're essentially a love diary. For example, I could pick out a day in 1982, and it’ll begin with the restaurant we ate in or a movie we saw and then a reaction to that,” Bill revealed. These personalized letters have worked wonders in their bonding over the decades. The couple are proud to have “never fought” in 40 long years. "We might disagree on something, but we talk about it rather than argue,” he remarked.

The couple has also based their relationship on this healthy and hearty communication. “The key to any relationship is that you both have to work at it every day. And never go to bed mad. Talk about everything. Everything should get resolved before your goodnight kiss,” he noted. Bill hopes to inspire younger couples with the dedication he put into his bond with his wife. "I see youngsters at restaurants sitting across from each other buried in their screens but never talking or looking at each other. I want them to enjoy the time they have with each other and treasure it,” he noted.
