6-foot-2 woman was intrigued by a shorter man’s pickup line and considered giving him a chance—until his next remark exposed his height insecurity
Confidence is usually seen as an attractive quality, but it gets overshadowed when it is paired with a lack of respect and self-awareness. Instagram user Becky Perry experienced this while she was out for coffee, where a short interaction with a man first caught her attention. Perry explained that she was attending a business meeting when he approached her and asked, “Did you and I used to work together?” Although she thought the opening line was unusual, she appreciated that he tried to start a conversation in person. She shared the story under the handle @becky_perry on June 10, 2026, explaining how she briefly considered giving him a chance before the interaction took a different direction.
After asking where they had worked together, Perry learned that they had never shared a workplace. The man then said he had worked with five women who were “carbon copies” of her and claimed they were all around 6 feet 8 inches tall, adding that she must be the same height. The woman told him she was 6 feet 2 inches, but he appeared surprised and questioned whether that was possible. The conversation became uncomfortable when Becky felt his comments were less about curiosity and more about his own feelings toward height. She realized he was suggesting that she could not really be taller than him, even though she believed he was clearly shorter than she was.
The interaction suggested that physical insecurities can influence how people behave in social settings. Perry decided not to continue the exchange and politely explained that she was already speaking with someone and needed to return to her meeting. Before leaving, the man made another comment that left Perry confused. He told her, “Oh no, I saw how tall you were and thought I would ask you for some uppies (slang for being lifted up by someone).” The remark made her feel that his earlier comments were rooted more in insecurity than a genuine compliment. She later shared that tall women should be careful about engaging in interactions where someone turns their height into a joke or tries to make them feel uncomfortable.
Being a tall woman in the online dating scene can come with its own challenges, especially when people are not honest about certain details. In another incident, a woman decided to give dating another chance after taking a long break. She agreed to meet a man who had described himself as 6 feet 1 inch tall, so she arrived expecting to meet someone close to her height. However, when they met, she quickly noticed that he looked different from his photos and was much shorter than he had claimed. Although she felt disappointed by the lie, she chose to continue the evening and see how things went.
The situation became worse when the bill arrived, and the man said he had forgotten his wallet, leaving her to pay. After she covered the check, he told her, “You did a good job,” and explained that he was only “testing” her. The comment shocked her because paying was never the problem; it was his dishonest behavior and unnecessary test that upset her. She felt his actions showed a lack of respect and decided to leave the restaurant.
