72-year-old living alone wrote a note seeking neighbors' help to 'save her sanity' — they didn't disappoint

It often gets difficult for older people living alone to pass the time and the peak of it was seen during the coronavirus pandemic, when the lockdown forced people to stay inside their house for months. Back then, a 72-year-old sought the help of her neighbors to save her "sanity" and one of them went above and beyond to ensure her well-being. She was living by herself and left a note in the lobby of her building which was shared on X by her neighbor Bon, who goes by @bonthehedgehog on the platform.

"Yesterday an elderly woman in my block taped the first note to the lobby door," the neighbor wrote. In the note, the woman had requested other people living in the building to pass the time by sharing spare books or DVDs with her. The note read, "Hi neighbors, HELP- does anyone have any spare books or DVDs?" The woman shared that she was "going round the twist with nothing to read." She pointed out that she would appreciate anything her neighbors could leave for her. "Please leave outside 143. Thank you for your kindness. Keep safe and be well," she added. In the caption, Bon revealed that they did drop off some books and DVDs for the elderly woman, following which they received a second note from her. "My neighbors and I dropped off some books/DVDs for her. Today, she stuck up a second note." The neighbor shared the photo of a wholesome second note the woman had written as a thank you to them.
"Thank you everyone. I am most touched and appreciative of your generosity and kindness," she began. "When I am finished with the books and the DVDs, I would leave them on the little table by the lobby for everyone to enjoy." The 72-year-old pointed out that it might take a while for her to do that. In the postscript, she mentioned, "You have saved an old bird's sanity." Many people took to the comments section of the post, offering to give books to the old woman. Bon replied, "Not gonna post/DM an address - don't feel comfortable giving a personal address out and she's got about 50 books from us already! I'm sure there are many people in your own areas who are in need - ask friends/family/community groups."
Awww bless her heart ❤️❤️❤️

@Wonder_Jonboy wrote, "I'd like to send her some DVDs if I can pass them to you. Or let me know how to get them to you or her." @ninaminhard commented, "I want to give her all my books and DVDs and also have a socially distanced chat with her to make sure she's okay and give her some human interaction." @nicolais86 remarked, "This broke me but it also gave me a good idea. Thanks for sharing. Everyone should ask their elder neighbors if they need reading/watching material, not just groceries."
