8th grade student frequently teased in school had the most fitting response to her bullies

There is no excuse for bullying anyone under any circumstances. The ruthless act can take a toll on a person that one could hardly fathom. Often, there are stories of people being bullied, but sometimes there are also heroes who stand up to them with a spot-on response. A woman named Lily (@user2849527481) was bullied in her childhood. However, instead of having people stand up for her, she stood up for herself. When she was in the eighth grade, she was bullied but when it was her turn to react, she had an unexpectedly brilliant response. The girl decided to let her talent and uniqueness do the talking through a magnificent performance at school. In front of the crowd, with the mic in hand, she rendered a confident and powerful response that left everyone speechless.

The National Health Interview Survey, shared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, revealed that from July 2021 to December 2023, around 34% of teenagers were bullied. While different percentages from this group experienced bullying once or twice or a couple of times, around 1.7% teenagers suffered almost every day. Whether done once in a lifetime or repeatedly, it does leave a mark on a person and the impact this harsh practice can have knows no bounds. While we are called to discourage this cruel act, we are also meant to support victims and empower them. And what better than to share examples of victims who came through.

Lily didn’t reveal many details about having been bullied, except that she was a victim in the eighth grade. The teenager decided to stand up to her careless schoolmates with a fitting response. Instead of trying to make a point, she sang it out and it was beyond brilliant. Lily sang a powerful rendition of “Part of Your World,” by Jodi Benson, from the classic, “The Little Mermaid." The song, which highlights the character, Ariel's hope to be seamlessly involved and united with the people without any discrimination, was the perfect choice to give a message to the bullies.

As she began her song with a soft voice, she challenged the perspectives of the people. Putting emotion into every word she sang, she made each lyric her own. This was not just a message to her bullies; it was a part of her strength unfolding. When she sang, “Wish I could be part of that world,” she wasn’t referring to the little mermaid’s plea, but rather, a world where she felt included and welcomed. Lily sang the entire song with pitch-perfection. Every note, rhythm, pause, high scale or run, stretch and impact to emphasize a word was laid out flawlessly.

“Throwback to when I sang my heart out to show all of my bullies,” she wrote in the text overlay — and yes, she did sing her heart out. As she ended her meticulous rendition, she was met with echoes of applause, cheers and unbelievable support from the audience. She had delivered her message loud and clear and her smile revealed that she was proud. The adult Lily who shared the video received immense applause from the internet. @aces_blues wrote, “You are phenomenal, my goodness!” @ngl_aidan_sharpe added, “Bet you silenced them!”
