A passenger told exhausted flight attendants she had a 'complaint' — their faces fell before they saw what was in her hands
Being a flight attendant might look glamorous from the outside, but packed flights, delays, and frustrated passengers can make the job anything but easy. Sometimes, when everything is going wrong, a little kindness from a stranger is all it takes to turn the day around. One passenger on a Baltimore-to-Palm Beach flight noticed the frustration among the flight attendants and decided to do something to make their day a little better. Live painting artist Stella Bona later shared the moment on Instagram @stellarlivepainting on August 6, 2026. She walked up to the flight attendants with some paper in hand and told them she had a "complaint." What they saw next turned a miserable flight into a moment they wouldn't soon forget.
Bona said the three flight attendants, Mitzi, Joseph, and Daz, had just boarded the Baltimore-to-Palm Beach flight after working an incoming Southwest flight. Because some passengers were connecting, the flight had to wait for them, and the delay quickly frustrated people. But Bona noticed that the frustration was being directed at the crew, so she pulled out her art supplies and started drawing them. She later walked up to Mitzi and Joseph with their portraits and said, "I have a complaint." Their faces immediately fell, only for them to light up when she handed them the paintings. Mitzi said, "Oh my god, that is so cool," while Joseph said the portraits had just turned their worst flight of all time around.
But the fun surprise didn't end there. Since the third attendant, Daz, was sitting apart from them, Bona still had to hand over his painting. Before she could approach him, Joseph jokingly suggested she tell Daz that it had been one of the worst flights she'd ever been on. In a follow-up video, Bona shared his reaction, and it was just as wholesome. She walked up to Daz, who already looked exhausted, and told him she had a complaint about the flight. He looked concerned until she handed him his painting. Daz let out a silent scream before saying, "Isn't that the sweetest thing?" He then gave her a warm hug to thank her. Touched by the surprise, he later asked to take a picture with Bona and the rest of the crew.
By the end of it, the mood had completely changed. The crew had been talking about how it was one of the worst flights they had worked, but Bona's unexpected gesture gave them something to smile about. The three flight attendants even discussed what they felt when Bona came up to them, claiming she had a complaint. Daz said he thought, "Oh my god, what now?" with Mitzi agreeing that she had the same thought.
Portraits can make for thoughtful gifts, especially when they are created by hand and capture a person's likeness. Bona wasn't the only artist who had surprised a flight attendant with art. In another story, artist Jeff sketched an always-smiling flight attendant during a flight. The attendant was visibly stunned, asked if the sketch had really been drawn by hand, and became emotional as he thanked the artist and asked for a hug.
