After giving away her last $10, a broke woman called her mom sobbing — then prayed, and woke up to something that left her speechless
It's believed that kindness finds its way back when someone needs it most. TikTok user Lauren Donahue shared a personal story about one such moment from her younger years. After giving away her final $10, the struggling woman broke down while speaking to her mother, prayed despite her doubts, and woke up the next day stunned by what followed. In a TikTok video, Donahue recalled surviving in California while working three jobs and trying to stay afloat financially. The clip, posted on Friday, May 15, 2026, under the handle @laurenldonahue, described how she had only $20, a negative bank balance, and barely enough fuel to drive home after buying groceries.

Donahue explained that the remaining $10 she had after buying groceries had been meant for gas because she feared she would not even make it home. However, after leaving the grocery store, she met a homeless woman trying to sell hand-drawn pictures. After seeing the drawings, she decided to hand over her last ten dollars and took one of the pictures with her. She later sat in her car crying and called her mother, saying, “I just gave this lady my last 10 dollars.” The next morning, she woke up to an email saying, “Jesus has bought your shoes,” after listing her shoes online for $120. She clarified it was the buyer's real name, much to her surprise.
At 21, she was not deeply religious and questioned how prayer could solve empty accounts, unpaid bills, and gas problems during that difficult stage of her life. She shared that her mother chose to pray with her instead of immediately sending money. Donahue admitted she mockingly wondered how prayer would place gas in her tank or money in her account. Still, she listened as her mother prayed over the phone and slowly joined in herself. She later explained, “I borrowed her belief,” while describing how the conversation changed her mood before she went to sleep feeling hopeful again.
When she checked the message the following morning, she discovered that a man named Jesus had purchased six pairs of shoes she had listed online after wearing them only once. She explained that nobody had ever bought her shoes before, which made the timing feel unbelievable to her. The buyer later arrived with one hundred and twenty dollars in cash and shared that his sister Maria in Mexico would love the shoes. Donahue said the experience stayed with her because it reminded her that “God will always provide if you allow him.” Since then, she has continued praying and believes that “God shows up in the most miraculous ways” during life’s most difficult moments.
Sometimes, all a person really needs is belief. In another incident, a woman experienced a miracle after losing her bank job over an $800 mistake. Crying on a train ride home, she admitted, “I just feel so sad,” before saying a short prayer. Moments later, she received a surprise call offering her another job, later reminding others that “all you need is faith.” Her experience became a simple example of how quickly life can change when hope is not completely lost.
