Brave 6-year-old boy helps his sick mother by asking an Amazon delivery person for help in a powerful video
Being astute and courageous is not easy but much required in today’s times. You never know when and where situations can call for quick thinking and action. A toddler is recently being applauded for his admirable response after his mom passed out. A woman named Elizabeth Crooks (@n.irishmum2) revealed that she had “postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS)”, per Newsweek. It causes a person's heart rate to rapidly increase when they stand upright. Crooks was experiencing an episode of the condition and began to feel dizzy.
She lives with her three kids. The oldest, 6-year-old Aiden, was blank when his mom passed out. Crooks mentioned that she had called an ambulance earlier when she felt her heart rate start increasing. Though she was conscious at the time, she continued to feel ill. Very soon, she mentioned, “My heart rate hit 180, I felt like I couldn't breathe and passed out." Sharing a video of what followed from her door’s camera, Crooks felt beyond grateful for her son’s astute thinking and reaction. Around 20 minutes after she was unconscious, Aiden spotted an Amazon delivery man at his gate and immediately approached him.
The boy, very politely and calmly, asked the man, “Excuse me, can you help my mum?” He further let the man know that his mother had fainted and the delivery man immediately opened the gate and came onto the scene. The recording then cuts to the man on call. He called 911 and reported the situation for quick medical assistance. The rest of the video captured the driver explaining the situation to the medic on call. In her caption, the mother wrote, “My son and daughter getting help from an Amazon driver guy. The importance of teaching your kids what to do in an emergency.”
The mom shared that post the call, it took the ambulance some time to arrive but things were soon stable. "He saw how bad it was and called for help, getting me help much quicker. By the time the ambulance came, about another 20 minutes, I was coming around, but pale as a sheet with blue lips,” Crooks recalled. The mom is thankful for the way things unfolded and has left a takeaway for all parents. “Hopefully, it can remind other parents the importance of teaching them (kids) what to do," she said. People were stunned by the toddler’s understanding of the situation. The fact that he perceived how serious it was and rushed to call for help from the first adult he found is noteworthy.
Many people even commended the driver for heeding the boy’s words and coming to the family’s rescue. @lunabelle649 wrote, “Amazing that your son is so smart to ask for help. The driver is a wonderful man for helping, he could have said no and went on his way but he took action. So glad you’re okay.” @mushymushypeas added, ‘You kid is incredible for saving you like that.” @janedoe7589 commented, “I’m glad you were able to get help. Your little guy was so amazing. So brave and polite to boot! The Amazon driver was amazing too.” @blondriin added, “You can see the delivery driver’s urgency in his actions. Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear hi-vis.”
