Wedding celebrations can come with plenty of expenses, but one bride-to-be’s way of handling the rising costs left her best friend questioning whether she wanted to attend at all. TikTok creator Hunter, who goes by @.hunter0327, said she was stunned when the bride sent her a $350 Venmo request for the wedding. She posted about the weird request on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, and revealed that what initially looked like a mistake turned into a demand that made Hunter decide she would no longer be attending.

@.hunter0327 Have you ever been charged a “wedding fee” for choosing to attend a wedding? Am I wrong? Apparently this would go towards the venue, menu , band etc. first of all I feel like that is a lot to charge someone. Second - you invited people. #wedding #bridesmaids #fyp #foryoupage #viral ♬ original sound - Hunter🖤

When the creator messaged her friend to ask what the amount was for, the bride explained that it was a "wedding fee." Confused, Hunter pointed out that she had already paid for her shoes, hair and makeup, and booked a hotel. Her best friend then clarified that "things are just getting really out of hand" and mentioned that the $350 was Hunter’s share of the decorations, food, venue, and band. To her surprise, the bride had sent the request to everyone. Hunter was caught off guard and told her friend that the whole thing felt awkward. But the bride responded, "You’re the one that’s choosing to attend." The exchange left Hunter stunned, and she ultimately decided to skip the wedding.

The bride then brought up another detail that made the situation even more uncomfortable. She said she had not yet received Hunter’s wedding gift. Rather than asking for a separate gift, she suggested Hunter simply count the $350 as the money she would have spent on a present. For the content creator, that was the point where she felt she could no longer go along with the arrangement.

The story sparked plenty of reactions from viewers. Many of them questioned the idea of charging wedding guests a mandatory fee after inviting them to the celebration. @stephgunderson remarked, "That is absolutely ludicrous! I have never heard of that!" Meanwhile, @jensosexy3 said, "People need to have the weddings they can afford." @user9777267122106 joked, "Are you going to get refunded if they get divorced?"

Wedding guests aren’t usually expected to fund the celebration itself, but another recent story showed just how complicated those costs can become. A Reddit user who was asked to serve as maid of honor thought she was attending a normal wedding. But she later found out that the couple expected each guest to pay $250 for a shared Airbnb, food, and other arrangements. Moreover, the maid of honor and her husband were even expected to sleep on an air mattress while other guests used bunk beds, despite paying the same fee. The bride's demands made the maid of honor rethink attending her friend's big day altogether.
