Childfree woman called out restaurant for giving her booked indoor table to family with a baby while she sat outside — their response upset her
When customers make reservations in advance, they expect the restaurant to respect their requests rather than change the plans without consideration. For one diner, who goes by u/NeoSakuri, this unfortunately wasn’t the case. The woman shared her experience in a post on September 25, 2026. She was meeting a friend for a meal and had reserved a table inside the restaurant. But to her surprise, when she arrived, she saw her friend sitting on a stool in the outdoor area. When she checked with the waitress, she was informed that another family with a baby was still occupying their table. What followed left her disappointed.
The woman said that she knew the weather was chilly, so she deliberately booked a place inside the restaurant. When she arrived, she was told that a family with a baby had come in a little later and was still occupying their table. The waitress assured her, saying, "Oh well, they were late and have a baby; we can’t tell them to leave. We will try and move you as soon as possible." Despite having back issues, she agreed, only to end up sitting there all night. She noted that the server didn’t need tips from the family sitting inside since they had good wages. The waitress could have easily asked them to adjust as well so she would get her table. “I’m really annoyed, as it put a sour note on my night,” she expressed.

After Reddit users supported her, she posted a review online. The restaurant replied, stating there was a misunderstanding. Despite clearly informing the staff that she had booked an indoor table and had back issues, they dismissed her concerns. Nevertheless, because the service and food were good, and because they were apologetic, she ultimately decided to let the situation go. In a setting where multiple people are involved, each needs to accommodate the other’s requirements so everyone can be happy. When only one party is forced to comply, it becomes a frustrating experience. One child-free couple had to deal with a similar dilemma. They had planned a wine-tasting trip with another couple. The couple with a child had been looking forward to a vacation since they became parents, so the child-free couple arranged an adult-only holiday.
Once all the bookings and schedules were finalized, the parents mentioned at the last minute that they couldn’t find anyone to care for their toddler and would need to bring her along instead. This upset the child-free couple, as they had already made arrangements for an adult vacation. The parents tried to justify their decision by stating that their toddler was used to traveling. However, the child-free couple later explained that their concerns weren’t about the comfort of travel, but rather the nature of the trip and the expectations associated with an adult vacation.
