Clip of mother-son's dance-off at school talent show is 'amazing' in every way — it's hard to pick sides
School talent shows give all the student an equal opportunity and platform to showcase their skills and entertain their peers. Whether you want to display your magic trick or make people laugh over a funny act, almost everything is allowed. So when Myers Park High School of Charlotte held its school talent show, the school's guidance counselor Ginny Jenkins and her son Scott decided to participate as well, per WBTV. The moment that took place back in 2017 was captured in video and posted on the official Facebook page of Myers Park High School.
The video went viral over the years and received over 55 million views and thousands of comments. The video which was almost 5 minutes long, captured the mother and son duo up on the stage, busting some quirky moves. The songs playing in the background ranged from 80s classic hits to early 2000s hip-hop tracks like "Crank That" by Soulja Boy. The mother-and-son duo even did some trendy TikTok dance moves to songs that were probably on every Gen Z playlist. Their fun dance performance was backed by a roaring crowd who continued to cheer for them as they concluded their performance with a Bruno Mars track.
According to the news outlet, Jenkins couldn't believe the reaction the video received online. She had been working as a guidance counselor at the high school for 10 years but she was always surrounded by hip-hop music and a whole lot of dancing. Jenkins had always loved dancing with her two sons, Scott and Mark, who go by the moniker, Scholar and Mkay and perform as hip-hop artists. The proud mom also had a chat with the news outlet, showing her enthusiasm about her sons' artistic projects.
They have also worked on an album called "16 Bars 4 Hip Hop" which happened to be a charitable music compilation featuring 40 unsigned recording artists from around the world. Only 26 of those artists are from the United States. It was also revealed that Jenkins and Scott matched their steps on stage for a charitable cause and the funds from the talent show went to benefiting Susan G. Komen. The comment section was equally thrilled and overjoyed to watch the sweet and funky performance from Jenkins and Scott.
Angela Caudle Gardner commented, "You still got it! Brought back great memories of you dancing at Follies and around RJR. Your son was awesome, too." Ana Batres wrote, "I hope that everyone that has children has such a good relationship as they do." Melody Haechton joked, "Impressive! Made me sore watching them get down. My hitch in my get-along said bye-bye!" Robyn-Harvey Smith quipped, "It was fantastic guys! Great to see mum and son having fun together." Carolyn Orange added, "That's pretty good. And I bet your friends think you have a pretty cool and great mom. You have to keep this in your heart forever."
