College freshman thought his ‘surprise’ Utah off-roading first date was a red flag — until his daily mirror ritual confession stopped her cold

She felt her guard rise, because in Utah, mountain drives on first dates tend to come with motives. But what he said next froze her.

First dates can be unpredictable, but sometimes they become unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. A young woman, Lauren Gee, recently recounted one of her most unusual experiences on TikTok, sharing a story from when she was a college freshman. On July 16, 2025, she posted under her handle, @mynameislorenlol, describing a first date that started as a "surprise" Utah off-roading adventure. A guy from a dating app asked her out, claiming he had seen some of her TikTok videos and used a few funny pickup lines. Lauren agreed, expecting an entertaining evening. However, after enduring several awkward moments, it was his bizarre shirtless mirror confession that finally made her leave.

The date started with him keeping the plans a secret, raising red flags, and ended with him confessing his cockiness and that he and his roommate compared themselves shirtless in front of mirrors. Lauren later revealed the full details of the incident, showing just how unsettling the evening had been. She explained that she didn’t recognize his car, and it was raining when he arrived to pick her up. He honked to get her attention, and after she got in, he asked if she was hungry.

She gave a vague answer, saying she could eat but didn’t want to seem desperate, then asked where they were going. He revealed it was a picnic, despite the rain and darkness. They stopped at a grocery store to grab sushi, and he said they would go off-roading up a mountain before eating. Lauren admitted, “I was a little bit nervous,” adding that her guard was up because in Utah, mountain drives on first dates often had ulterior motives.

During the drive, the man nearly flipped the car several times, leaving her terrified. At the picnic spot, he realized he had forgotten his chopsticks and ate the sushi by hand. While eating, he paused mid-conversation to comment on her personality, saying she seemed like she had the mind of a philosopher, and asking if she was a philosophy major. A call from his friend came through on speaker, and when he casually said he was just "hanging out with a friend," it irritated her. She reminded herself, "We are not friends; this is a first date."

Later, they went for drinks at a nearby place, and when she chose a drink for him, he said it was disgusting, leaving her feeling awkward and inexperienced at just 18. At one point, he asked, “Do you want to know my biggest flaw?” and admitted he thought he was too cocky. Lauren tried to explain that confidence and cockiness were different, but the moment that broke the date came shortly after. He confessed that he and his roommate stood shirtless in front of a mirror every day, comparing who was more attractive.

“Some people aren’t blessed to be as attractive as you and I are,” he told her. Shocked, Lauren made an excuse about needing to finish an assignment, ending the evening, and refusing any discussion of a second date. She avoided saving his number, but days later, she received a video call from a random number. It was him, asking again about a second date. Lauren declined, and he ended the call with, “I understand. Goodbye, my little philosopher.”
