Contractor gets call for home repairs — he refuses to charge family after learning painful truth about their kid
Out of the abundance of love and kindness we have, we can always spare some for those who have their share of struggles. Mark Bowman, a contractor who goes by “Man with Tools,” is an inspiration to kickstart this generosity. The man was contacted by the Duff family for their home repair in Butler County, per CBS News. There was quite a lot of work to be done which Bowman was up for. However, things got more wholesome when he learned more about the family and a painstaking truth that pushed him to fix their home for them free of charge.
When he learned of the family, he also realized that there were a lot of repairs and work required for the home. Bowman and his crew gladly obliged but made another profound discovery. They met 7-year-old Lucy, the daughter of the couple who’d contacted Bowman. Lucy was a bright delight but suffered from stage IV Wilms cancer. Sharing their journey on his Facebook page, Bowman explained the family’s story. “I was informed that this family really needed some help with stuff and on top of that their daughter has cancer. She is 7,” he wrote in a post. His heart went out to Lucy and his family and out of his generosity, Bowman decided to do something for them.
“Without hesitation, I called the husband and told him after talking with him for a while that we would do all the work for free.” He even shared pictures of the work they started. “We took care of a lot of stuff for them. I did talk to the family and asked permission to make the post as well as the pictures,” he added. The contractor even took his dog to play and make friends with the family.
Mentioning that the crew and family had a great time bonding, Bowman was glad to be able to help out. "I just feel like sometimes everybody needs a break and it just so happens I was able to give them a break, so that's what I did," he said. The family has extended immense gratitude towards Man with Tools for all their effort and generosity. "Mark just really came through because we couldn't afford to have a lot of this done and he just kind of took that off our plate. He was like, 'No problem, I've got this,'" Lucy’s mom remarked.
In another post, Bowman shared a picture of Lucy along with the progress on their home. This post included pictures of the men at work getting the painting done and their commitment and dedication to repairing the girl’s home. The entire group had undoubtedly extended selfless love to the Duff family to help them furnish their home with a warm and loving space. If nothing else, we can use Bowman’s example and words to boost the spirit of giving back. "It's all about giving back. It always comes back around to you. If you're doing that good, it comes back around to you tenfold,” he remarked.
