Couple sent their wedding invite to Pope Francis for fun. They never expected the Vatican to actually reply

On account of the passing of Pope Francis, Holy Father of the Catholic Church, people have been sharing unique moments and encounters with the pontiff during his tenure. Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday after suffering a stroke, per The Vatican News. While the catholic church mourns his passing, there are also wholesome memories exhibiting his love, kindness and compassion. Reddit user u/Misther_ shared a post about his indirect encounter with the Pope. He had invited the pontiff to his wedding and never thought he would show up. However, the Vatican sent him a response that has people filled with awe and added respect for him.

Pope Francis passed away after reportedly suffering a stroke, followed by a coma and an “irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse.” Dr. Andrea Arcangeli, Director of the Directorate of Health and Hygiene of the Vatican City State, issued the report that mentioned the late pontiff’s medical history of “acute respiratory failure caused by multimicrobial bilateral pneumonia, multiple bronchiectases, high blood pressure and Type II diabetes.” Aged 88, the Holy Father passed away in Rome. Looking back on his tenure, it was full of emotions—mainly compassion but also humor and delight, among others. However, the man’s experience is a special memory.

The man mentioned that he was engaged and soon to be married and sent a letter to the Pope, inviting him to their wedding. “My wife and I sent a wedding invite to Pope Francis for fun when we were engaged, and this was the Vatican’s response,” he wrote in his caption, along with the attachment of a letter from the Vatican. The response read, “His Holiness Pope Francis has received your letter and has asked me to thank you.” It further mentioned that the pontiff would keep the couple in his prayers and assured his abundant blessings on the couple. Dated June 2023, the letter was also signed by one of the assessors at the Vatican.

The couple was stunned to receive a reply, and that the Head of the Church had taken note of their invitation and wished to pray for them. The light-hearted and heartwarming response was just an example of the loving, thoughtful and remarkable figure Pope Francis was. Many people admired the sweet nature of the prank and even noted that it was honorable that the couple received a response. Many were surprised that the Pope and the Vatican took note of such requests and were so in touch with the people. u/7thFeetTraveller said, “Always thought that he was a good man. It's the little things like this that make people human.”
