Dad has mic-drop response to people making demeaning remarks on his daughters’ homecoming dresses

Every teen wants to look their absolute best during their homecoming dance. That is why, picking the perfect dress for the homecoming party is the most important part of the prep. When WKMG-TV news anchor Matt Austin's teenage daughters chose their homecoming outfits, they were severely criticized online. Austin took to his TikTok account, @flnewsman, to boldly defend his daughters Addison, 17, and Olivia, 14, with a mic-drop response.
"I put up what I thought was a pretty innocuous post about my daughters looking beautiful for homecoming but you would be shocked at some of the comments," Austin said in the video while referring to the pictures he posted on his Facebook page. Many crossed the line by commenting that his daughters were dressed up provocatively and that they were "asking for it." Austin decided to shut all haters with a stern reminder that it was not his daughters' job to make sure someone's son was focused on doing the right things. It was also ridiculous to expect girls to dress hideously enough to ensure that they were not assaulted.
"It's your job to not raise a pervert with no self-control," Austin remarked boldly. However, Austin mentioned what would happen if he had started dictating what his girls wore. They will not only start to hate their dad for setting up arbitrary rules but they might start lying to their parents or end up doing something worse. "That ain't happening, Karen," he concluded. "But you know what would really disappoint me? If my girls grow up to be the kind of adult who goes on social media and demean a teen's appearance on her father's Facebook page. Now that's what I call trashy." Austin also showed his daughters the video he filmed and posted it on his TikTok after getting a seal of approval from the teens.
Talking to Good Morning America, Austin admitted that he shared the pictures of his daughters as a proud dad on the homecoming night which his senior and freshman daughters attended at the same high school. Later on, Austin was stunned to see that the picture he posted ended up receiving a lot of negative remarks. "As I looked, I saw sort of the nasty comments, that I'm a bad father, how could you, so scandalous, that sort of rhetoric happening," Austin recalled to the outlet. "I was stunned."
"You would never see anybody comment on your son's clothes. That would never happen," Austin continued. "They could be out there in their Speedos for their swim team and nobody has a problem with that. There's a total double standard when it comes to how girls are critiqued for their dress and how guys are critiqued for their dress, which is nonexistent." Austin was upset to witness how girls are held accountable for whatever they wear in social situations. The TikTok community also praised the dad for taking his daughters' side and shutting down the online trolls.

@bosslady_73 commented, "YES! I raised three daughters and feel exactly the same. They are not responsible for a man’s thoughts." @nikkkkkkkiiiiiii.a wrote, "I think they look fabulous and not going to lie I’d love to know where your daughter bought her black dress." @sweetie_potpie quipped, "Are the dresses a little short? Maybe. But they have everything important covered. I see nothing wrong with it. Let them be confident in their own skin." @denise_dougherty added, "Way to go and so true. I’m a mom to 3 boys and my boys better treat every girl with respect."
