Dad’s backpack containing invaluable memories from daughter's wedding was robbed — his special attempt to find it goes viral

It is a dad’s dream to have his daughter’s wedding organized perfectly. Unfortunately, a father, Richard Selby, had his dream shattered when his backpack was stolen from his car, per PEOPLE. The backpack contained the wedding speech he had written ever so dearly for his daughter's big day. Along with it, other important and sentimental items for his daughter were also in the bag and were stolen days shy of the wedding. With hopes of finding it back, the dad made a public plea to be reunited with his belongings as they are invaluable. While the dad was unable to find the items in time for the wedding, the internet is still bent on spreading the word and helping him.

According to Statista, there are over 57,000 robberies that take place on streets or sidewalks in the United States each year. Unfortunately, this dad became prey and lost something close to his heart. Selby was set to be with his daughter days ahead of her wedding on June 28, per CBS Boston. One night, when he parked his car to walk his daughter to her apartment, he returned to something heartbreaking. The back of his window was broken, and the backpack containing his daughter’s wedding gift and other prized possessions were gone.

The dad was frantic and did his best to find his bag. "There's a significant impact on me and my family. At the very beginning, it began to interfere with the wedding,” he remarked. When days passed and the wedding was nearing, he decided to prioritize his daughter’s moment. “I said, 'We need to focus on the wedding so that it can be a big success and somehow reach out to the broader community and ask for help here,'" he noted. His daughter turned to TikTok, asking for help. “I’m in front of Blank Street on Charles and Pinkney,” she said, sharing that her dad’s backpack was stolen.

The woman mentioned that the laptop where his speech was had also been stolen. She added that she had tried to check security footage but in vain. The duo was putting up flyers with a $2,000 reward for the person finding the bag. The dad and daughter duo made a sincere plea. “My dad would love to get his things in time for my wedding so that he can be the best father of the bride,” the woman said. Unfortunately, the backpack couldn’t be retrieved before the wedding. The woman’s big day took place as planned without the valuables and the speech.

Nevertheless, the family hasn’t given up. They’ve increased the reward to $4,000 since and hope to get their hands back on the backpack. People are sharing immense support, hoping the family finds their possessions. Many people reposted, commented and boosted the post to their best. @latebloomerfounder said, “My business is on Charles Street.
