Giving people a reality check in some situations often becomes essential. Especially with kids, as they might not have context about a lot of things happening around them. A mom heard her six-year-old daughter asking her toddler sibling if she wanted to go to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding. The mom, Abby Thomason, heard the conversation and immediately decided to give her daughter a polite but firm reality check about the situation. The woman, who is also an early childhood play therapist, goes by @earlyemotions on TikTok. Her video received over 11,000 views and many viewers felt that adults might need this reality check, too.

"Giving my 6-year-old the reality check we all need today," the text overlay of the video read. "Do you want to come to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding?" the 6-year-old asked her 3-year-old sister. "Yeah," the toddler affirmed. The mom immediately jumped in and expressed, "But I don't know if we are going to be invited." Thomason then quickly corrected herself and pointed out, "Actually, I know we are not going to be invited." She asked her daughters if she had explained why they were not going to be invited. "Because they don't know us," her older daughter responded. "Yeah, because they don't know us." The girl wondered if any of their family or cousins were going to be invited to the wedding.

"No, nobody we know knows them," Thomason revealed. "Everybody knows Taylor Swift," the girl chimed in enthusiastically. "Yes, but Taylor Swift doesn't know everybody else." She added, "It feels like we know her. But she doesn't know us." The confused little girl questioned, "She doesn't know who knows her?" The mom remarked, "Well, we see pictures of her and listen to her music. So it makes you feel like you know her, but we don't really know her as a person." The girl understood her mom and shrugged, then asked her to put on "Hot to go." People appreciated the mom's message and pointed out how it was a really important conversation to have.

@bryanbeasleyphoto wrote, "Once, when my daughter was 6, we were stopped at a light and saw a man crossing the street in front of us. She pointed and asked, 'Daddy, do you know him?' 'Nope,' I replied. Without missing a beat, she said, 'Well, you should meet him—he could be your best friend.'" @gyee325 commented, "This is excellent parenting. Telling your daughter the truth will help her grow up strong and with realistic expectations." @tracidus remarked, "So cute, but seriously, this made me realize I need to start being honest with myself. I’m not going to be invited even though I feel like I should be!"

@srm_bostic shared, " Hi! There’s a Facebook group where Swifties are uniting in all areas of the world to celebrate T&T on the same day! Maybe if there’s something local to you, it would be fun to take them!" @michellestokerphoto joked, "My 5-year-old decided she’s going to be the flower girl, my 8-year-old is going to play piano and I’m going to be the photographer. We’re going with it." As an early childhood play therapist, the mom shares quite a few videos about toys and games. In one video, she chose five toys from each aisle.
