Deaf man was placing order at Starbucks but barista stopped him midway to give him a note—it made him feel 'blessed'
People with disabilities perform their day-to-day chores in slightly different ways. Even simple chores and tasks need added effort. In such scenarios, even minor acts of kindness can brighten up their days. A deaf man named Ibby Piracha didn’t hesitate to share his wholesome encounter with a Starbucks worker on one of his visits. The man, who was a regular customer, was moved after the employee left him a note with the most heartwarming news. Sharing the image of the note, Piracha remarked, “Oh, I gotta love this place.” He then revealed that a Starbucks woman cashier knew he was deaf and decided to go out of her way to make things simpler for him.
The customer revealed that he visited the outlet as frequently as three times a week. Being such a consistent consumer, the woman thought it would be great to make his visits better with a gesture that she revealed in the note. “I’ve been learning ASL (American Sign Language) so you can have the same experience as everyone else,” the letter read. Piracha was delighted to learn about this kind deed. “I am surprised she is learning sign language,” he remarked. After receiving the note, the cashier went on to use the signs she’d already learned to attend to Piracha. “She asked me, ‘What do you want to drink?’ in sign language,” he recalled. “I am so blessed with her,” he added.
Leaving a message for fellow people, Piracha wrote, “I want hearing people to understand the hearing community's support for the deaf community.” The note made the man’s day and just goes to show how a little kindness can strengthen any relationship. Several people lauded the cashier in the comments. Others even received the kindest reminder of how they can offer support. Raine Sheldon wrote, “Great story! It's nice to see good news!” Rachel LeBlanc added, “Saw this the other day and it warms my heart. This is awesome.” Mylee Alysa Harding revealed, “When I worked at a Petco that had many deaf customers, I was the only employee there who knew any sign language and those customers were very appreciative of that fact.”
Noelle Khaligh shared, “It's such a nice feeling to be the one to know sign language anywhere you go. I had a deaf guest and I cannot explain to you how excited she got when I signed to her. It has helped me break that language barrier and I'm so happy.” Many added that the woman deserved some sort of appreciation from the company for her thoughtfulness. Danial Saleem wrote, “It's amazing professionalism. You should speak to her bosses. She deserves a pat on the back.” The best reaction was from those who decided to follow the cashier’s footsteps. Alfredo Vargas remarked, “Amazing, hopefully, more people follow this by choice. I'm certainly going to buy an ASL dictionary now, it's gonna come in handy.” Nicki Francisco wrote, “That's so awesome! I knew it a little back in high school. I'd love to relearn it.”
