Working as a delivery driver can take you to unfamiliar streets and places, but getting sent into a dark forest by your own delivery app is probably not part of the job description. A DoorDash driver, who goes by u/IanHSC on Reddit, found himself in exactly that situation while making a late-night delivery, and he shared the bizarre experience on the platform on Thursday, September 10, 2026. He thought the biggest problem was finding the customer's house in the dark until three police cars suddenly showed up.
The DoorDash driver said he had decided to spend his free time Dashing that night and was having a pretty decent run, making around $100 in four hours. But on his final order, his map ran into an issue, and the app sent him somewhere completely unexpected. The street address and map pin led him into a forest with no road or nearby signs pointing toward the house. Since it was dark and raining, he stayed close to his car and started searching with a flashlight while calling the customer for directions. Just as the customer finally walked up and took the food, three police cars suddenly arrived. A neighbor had seen the driver wandering around, called the police, and complained that he was breaking into their garage.
According to the driver, luckily, he was on a support call at the time and could show that his app was still active. His map marker also proved that he had parked where the map guided him. Once the police understood what had happened, the driver was cleared. But after getting sent into a forest in the dark, standing in the rain, and then having the police called on him, he decided that was enough excitement for one night. He called it a good place to stop his Dashing for the evening.
People on Reddit had plenty to say about the neighbor's decision to call the police. u/bigfoot1291 wrote, "We need to normalize consequences for false police reports." Another person, u/Evening-Contest-2768, was even more direct: "I would not be leaving without that neighbor's arrest." Meanwhile, u/goreaver pointed out the possible neighborhood fallout, writing, "Yeah, I bet that neighbor hates that neighbor, someone who never minds their own business."
Calling the cops over an unjustified complaint can often backfire. In a similar incident, TikTok user Aiden Blevins was sledding down a snow-covered street when his neighbors called the cops on him. But when the officers arrived, they didn't shut the fun down; three of them joined in and started sledding too, turning a complaint into a moment that had the whole neighborhood watching. Sometimes, a complaint can turn into a situation nobody saw coming, especially when the person being reported has done nothing wrong.
