DoorDash driver thought a customer was checking his order for a mistake — what he did with one specific drink left them in tears
It takes one little act of kindness from someone to turn your exhausting workday into a day that makes you genuinely smile. For a DoorDash driver, it happened when they least expected it. Reddit user who goes by u/BasicInevitable2226 shared their experience on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, describing how a customer carefully checked the delivery bag after receiving food from an expensive restaurant. The driver thought the customer was checking the bags for a mistake. But then the man's one gesture left the driver going home with teary eyes.
The driver had accepted an order that paid $10 for a 10-mile delivery, which they said was nothing unusual. When they arrived at the customer’s home, the man immediately asked them to shine a flashlight on the bags. The driver explained that everything had already been sealed when they picked it up, but the customer said he knew that and started opening the bags to inspect the drinks. At first, the driver wondered what they had done wrong. Then the man grabbed one of the drinks and said, “Yes, this one.” The driver was still confused and started thinking about what was wrong with that drink until the customer said, "This one is for you." The driver got overwhelmed by the gesture and said they were "crying while DoorDashing" on the way back home.
The driver said the drink was probably worth around $10 because it came from an expensive restaurant, making the act feel even more generous. They thanked the customer and told him they really appreciated his kindness. When the customer warned that the drink might be too sweet and suggested diluting it, the driver laughed and said they actually loved sweet drinks. Before leaving, they thanked him again and wished him well, clearly touched by the unexpected gift.

They explained that they also try to help people whenever they can, including three homeless men who live in their vans near Venice Beach.
