Elementary student won a bike for perfect attendance — but what he asked his teacher to do left everyone holding back tears
There's no age when it comes to practicing compassion, and an elementary student proved that in the most wholesome manner. Simmons Elementary's Maddix won a bike for perfect attendance, as revealed in a clip shared on their Facebook page on May 29, 2026. To everyone's surprise, the boy recalled something and made an unexpected request of his teacher, Mr. Albert. As soon as he heard it, he was delighted to fulfil the same for the kid. It has the internet teary-eyed.
Woodford County Masons Buford-Landmark Lodge #41 gives two bicycles to students who have perfect attendance. This year, Maddix was the fortunate recipient. However, he made an unusual request to his teacher. He told him that he wanted it to be gifted to someone who didn't really have a bike. Mr. Albert took him with the new prize to surprise the lucky winner. He called one of the kids from a busy classroom outside. That's when the youngster revealed, "I won this bike, but I wanted to give it to you because I already have one." The second he finished his sentence, the grateful schoolmate reached out for a hug. As the educators smiled while holding back tears, the child went in for a second hug, feeling immensely emotional and joyful.
The school shared the adorable video online and wrote, "We are extremely proud of Maddix's intentionality and thoughtfulness." According to a 6-month study published by Taylor and Francis Online, it was revealed that 5th and 6th-graders exhibit goodness through selfless acts. The data showed that when asked how they would extend kindness, 57% said through generosity, and 43% suggested compassion. Other responses included miscellaneous gestures, inclusion, and civility towards others. It was pointed out that for kids, responding to the vulnerability of another was a priority, and virtues were chosen accordingly. This youngster exhibited these traits by giving away his bike.
The post left many online users surprised, as they praised the young boy for his kind heart. Angela Roberts wrote, "The kindness and love our Bulldogs show is a reassuring reminder that we must be doing something right here at Simmons!" Chelsea Marie noted, "I feel like he might've been emotional, and he was having a hard time. I think he definitely wanted to give the bike, though." Allie Buchanan commented, "Well, I wasn't prepared for my heart to beam with so much pride for kids I don't even know, but wow. Way to go, Simmons."
