'Excited' 83-year-old's reaction to discovering voice-to-text smartphone feature is absolutely adorable
When we look back on the olden days, there is so much we didn’t have in terms of technology and accessibility. Going beyond, for the boomer generations, much of their world has changed with evolution and development. Each of these inventions, unimaginable at one point, seems to baffle the older generations more than the younger people. A woman on Reddit, u/AvalonThornberry, shared the heartwarming reaction of her great aunt when she discovered a new feature on her smartphone. Though simple and common to younger people, the 83-year-old woman couldn’t fathom the idea of the invention, much less that she was actually using the same.
Thornberry shared a screenshot of her conversation with her great aunt Muriel, in which the elderly seemed eager to share with her that she had discovered a new feature. The voice-to-text specification, available on many smartphones, seemed to have taken the lady by surprise. The feature requires a person to speak into the microphone whatever they want to say and it converts the same into a text message. As Muriel sent a text to her sister's granddaughter, she continuously explored the feature at every step. The final message from Muriel encapsulated her astonishment and excitement perfectly.
The message read, “Do you think this is going to work? Holy cow, oh, it took, oh that’s wild.” While Muriel began her message by questioning the feature, she was shockingly interrupted after seeing it convert from audio to text. As she spoke, the words were being added and it left the great aunt speechless. She was so baffled that she recorded her reaction in text while sending the message. “It’s still working…that is a…goodness, that’s really something,” the message continued. Sharing the screenshot of her aunt's message, Thornberry wrote, “Someone just discovered voice to text." With over 12,000 upvotes, people absolutely loved the 83-year-old woman’s raw and heart-melting reaction.
Her naive response, having no idea of how the technology functioned, and her vibrant eagerness were adorably visible in her converted message. It’s safe to say, it might be one of her favorite and most helpful features in the present times. While people dropped comments expressing how smitten they were by the elderly's reaction, others were chuckling about the fact that they were able to imagine a complete voice and personality for Muriel based on her sweet message. u/Sympathetic_Witch remarked, “It's so nice because it's so genuine.” u/TheFriesInTheBagBro added, “Never met the lady but I read that in her voice.”
u/NottheMama73 shared a similar instance saying, “My dad is 80 and texts me practically every day and overuses heart emojis.” u/CertifiedAH hysterically said, “Prepare to read long text walls without punctuation marks.” u/imprimatura wrote, “ My brain created an entire voice just to read this post.” u/Rryenica exclaimed, “Your great aunt's new superpower: endless voice-to-text chats.” u/V00D334 said, “I am so happy for her.”
