Father-daughter duo developed headaches moments after getting into an Uber — the driver’s response to one request deepened their suspicions
When something feels wrong, people do not always have to wait for proof before taking steps to protect themselves. Instagram user Peter Butler shared one such experience after taking an Uber ride with his daughter. The incident was shared on Instagram under the handle @voyce_judith on Monday, August 3, 2026, where he described how both of them suddenly began feeling unwell shortly after getting into the vehicle. While the ride started like any other, what happened next left him questioning whether they were truly safe.
Butler explained that he and his daughter had just returned a rental car before booking an Uber to head home. Everything looked normal when they entered the vehicle, but within about a minute he started feeling extremely dizzy. Soon after, his daughter looked at him and said, "Dad, my head hurts," making him realize they were both feeling sick at the same time. When he asked the driver to stop the car, the driver refused and continued driving while repeating, "It's okay. I'll take you home." Butler said that reaction immediately increased his concern. He also noticed the driver's window was cracked open, though he admitted he could not say if it had anything to do with the situation.
Feeling uneasy, he decided he could not stay in the car any longer. He canceled the ride while they were still inside the vehicle, and said the driver then became visibly annoyed. After finally stopping, the driver told them, "Get out of the car." Peter and his daughter wasted no time getting out, while the driver pulled away as soon as they were outside. The father trusted his gut feeling and made a sensible choice for their safety. He later reported the driver through the Uber app because he believed the incident should be documented.
Butler said that within just a few minutes of leaving the car, his dizziness disappeared and his daughter's headache also went away very quickly. He was careful not to make any firm claims about the cause of the incident. "Maybe it was something completely unrelated," he said, adding that there could have been another explanation and that he simply did not know for sure. Still, he believed leaving the vehicle was the right decision because he did not want to take any unnecessary risk. He ended by saying, "I'd rather get out of the situation early, than stay and wish I had listened to that feeling."

Paying attention to one's intuition during uncomfortable situations can help a person stay safe. In another incident, a young woman shared how a ride with her friend became frightening after the driver took them toward a place they had not planned to visit. As their worry increased, they tried to convince him to stop at a safer location and even offered extra money for the inconvenience, but he did not agree to let them leave. The two friends later found a chance to get out of the car and reach a gas station. Afterward, a security guard told them, "This has happened four times in the last month," making the experience even more disturbing.
