Father refused to move his son from her pre-booked window seat, forcing her into the middle — then the flight attendant found her an unexpected seat

Learning airplane etiquette is essential for all passengers' comfort, but unfortunately, some travelers lack it. TikTok user Miami Kunis, who goes by @miamikunis11, shared a traumatic experience on September 18, 2026, about a flight from two years ago. Kunis explained that she had reserved a window seat in advance but found a teenage boy sitting in it. When she asked him to move, his father told her to take the middle seat instead. After repeated disturbances from the father-son duo, Kunis had to seek help from the flight attendant, who then made an unexpected gesture.

Kunis was flying alone from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Newark, New Jersey, and her dad had booked her window seat in advance. She then saw a teenage boy sitting in it. When she told him that he was in her seat, his dad, who was sitting in the aisle seat, told Kunis, "I told him he can sit there." She showed her ticket, but the man refused to move his son, and eventually, she took the middle seat instead. The father and son soon began talking, passing food, and creating disturbances for Kunis. A kid sitting behind her then threw up, so she reached out to a flight attendant and explained the problem. The flight attendant then asked Kunis to sit in his seat for a while, and before landing, they moved her to a first-class seat. 

Kunis emphasized the importance of airplane etiquette, noting how others' behavior can negatively affect fellow passengers. She was trying to avoid a scene, so she agreed to let the boy take the seat and assumed that the father, sitting in the aisle seat, would move to the middle seat to sit next to his son. But when that did not happen, she was forced to sit between them. Although she asked the man to move to the middle seat, he shut her down loudly by saying, "Can you just sit in the middle?"

After she sat between them, the dad passed a hamburger over her head to his son. They continued chatting, which left Kunis confused about why they couldn't sit together. When the kid behind her threw up, she freaked out and wanted to use the bathroom to calm down. She got up to go out, while the father got frustrated and said, "She is so annoying." She was irritated by this and told the flight attendant about her situation, who then came to her aid. Kunis shared that the crew member was very kind to her and apologized for the inconvenience caused.  

Traveling alongside strangers can be difficult when someone expects others to accommodate their preferences. In another incident, a woman named Joanna Nalepa was asked to move away from her seat by a man due to his religious beliefs. In an Instagram video, she explained that he refused to sit next to her because she was a woman. To avoid conflict, Nalepa moved, but shortly after, a flight attendant intervened on her behalf. The attendant firmly instructed the man that the woman would remain in her seat and said, "If your religion doesn’t let you sit next to a woman, then you should manage everything you can for the flight so you feel comfortable." The attendant emphasized that it was selfish of him to expect someone to give up their seat based on his faith.
