One can’t expect the entire cabin to be silent while on a flight. Some amount of chatting or background noise is expected; it doesn’t bother most passengers. A mom and TikTok user named Matilda, who goes by @matildavalles, shared her experience on August 6, 2026. She was pregnant and was traveling with her family when she encountered a rude traveler who kept looking back at her. After entertaining him multiple times, she requested him to stop. To her surprise, instead of apologizing, the man had a ruthless reply. It prompted the mom to call the cabin crew, and they quickly shut him down with their response.

Matilda was offered another vacant row so she would have more room and would be more comfortable moving around. She took her son Albie, while the rest of her family stayed in their seats. In front of her new spot was a man who scoffed the second he saw her. A little while later, the young boy began talking to his mom. He wasn’t loud or disruptive, yet the passenger was agitated and asked her to tell the boy to be quiet. This continued for a bit, until she had to request that he stop turning around repeatedly. He first claimed he was looking out the window before adding, “I wasn’t looking at you, you stupid b***h.” The mom immediately called the flight attendants. The cabin crew had clocked the situation. They noticed the man disturbing her as they walked past them during service. When they noticed the mom crying, they asked him not to interact with her.

He stayed quiet for a bit, but turned around again and began making comments. This time, the head flight attendant intervened. He firmly told the passenger that certain things, like a child talking, cannot be controlled on a flight. He also told him that it was irrational to board a plane and not expect a child on it. Finally, he instructed him that if there was anything he wanted to mention to Matilda, he had to do so through the cabin crew. The mom praised the airline for being vigilant about the situation and also doing something about it. The man’s actions were questionable from the time he scoffed at her. He even told her she was the first parent he had met who "can’t control" her own child. When Matilda took a stand for herself and asked him to stop, he became abusive, prompting her to request help.

Flight attendants have more power to intervene amid situations where unruly passengers refuse to practise basic etiquette. In another instance, a man received a blunt response from a cabin crew member after his unusual behavior. He refused to sit next to a woman and said that it was for religious reasons. Reluctantly, the female moved to another seat. However, the flight attendant came to her aid and firmly told the man, “If your religion doesn’t let you sit next to a woman, then you should manage everything you can for the flight so you feel comfortable.” She ensured the passenger got to sit in the seat she had booked and paid for.
