First-class passenger’s husband filmed a flight attendant after a delayed pre-departure drink — then a couple behind them stepped in unexpectedly
While a major part of a flight attendant’s role is to serve and maintain the passenger experience, they also have to follow protocol and prioritize safety. One cabin crew member who goes by u/BallisticBreezyBush shared how doing exactly this backfired. They explained on Monday, September 21, 2026, in a Reddit post, that they had to refuse a first-class passenger a pre-departure beverage due to the delay. As a result, the woman got offended, and her husband began taking photos of the employee after boarding. A couple behind them noticed the ordeal and had an unexpected response.
The staff mentioned that because the cleaning and catering had not yet been completed, boarding was held up for 12 minutes. As a result, the crew had to keep track of time and set up their service accordingly. When a woman requested a drink, the employee told her they wouldn’t be able to offer it due to the delay. But soon after boarding, her husband started recording the crew member. When confronted, he gave a vague reply. After deplaning, one couple from a few rows behind apologized on behalf of the unruly travelers and even shared a note with their contact information in case the crew member needed support regarding the matter.
In a comment, the flight attendant revealed that they did write a report about their experience, so assistance from the fellow passengers will be helpful. They mentioned how it was the first time someone had turned a simple interaction into harassment for them. The woman who requested the drink was adamant about what she believed she knew. She reiterated that there are flight attendants who choose whether or not to give pre-departure beverages. The staff member assured her that it's not a personal choice but protocol that has to be followed.
They said that due to the delay, they didn’t have the time to do a safe and efficient pre-departure service. Moreover, the flight was only for 20 minutes, so it was hard to understand why it was that big a deal. When they informed the man that taking pictures of cabin crew without their consent is against airline policy, he outed himself by saying, “Fine, I won’t do anything with it.” It prompted the flight attendant to clear up any misunderstanding from their previous conversation, but the duo refused to budge.
In their minds, they retained the idea that the staff member deliberately chose not to serve them. The cabin crew is well-versed in how to ensure good service while taking several factors, such as rules, passenger requirements, type of flight, and other circumstances, into account. However, some flyers just want what they believe they’re entitled to, and even forget etiquette in the bargain.
In another story, a flight attendant refused to offer drinks to a group of passengers after previous rounds left them intoxicated. When they insisted, they were handed glasses of water instead, but they deliberately tipped the cups and spilled it. The manager watched this unfold and decided that they would not receive service for the rest of the trip. Their own entitlement taught them a lesson.
